Hand brake shoes

First post please be gentle, 06, RRS SC, 86k miles, developed a scraping noise from NSR disk while moving , hand brake working fine when parked up, local garage thinks hand brake shoes lose and have moved and are scraping against disk/back plate, brakes are working fine, plenty left on pads and disk, no excessive heat , the garage cant fit me in for a few weeks, so thinking of doing it myself, just wanted know if any one else done there own, can you do a DIY job or has the car got to be plugged in to a computer to reset the hand brake, any think you cant do at home . thanks in advance. steve

It can be done DIY.

recommended to remove the large handbrake fuse to stop tiny fingers pulling on the brake .

Main thing is to ensure the arm on the rear of the shoes is moving and greased.

Yes, nothing unconventional about it. You can do it yourself if you are familiar with these things.

They do tend to get a lot of rust and scale in there, so a good clean out may be all that is needed.
