The my14 I sold with 33000 miles flrsh still 12 months approved warranty remaining, the chap who bought it had it 2 weeks & the crankshaft failed & Lr refused to pay.

I wonder what the actual (honest) percentage of this type of failure is, Land Rover claim 1.3% Whistle Reading on the Jag forums, they also suffer the spun bearings &/or Broken crankshaft scenario.

Reading the various forums, it also appears that you must have you Vehicle serviced within the main dealer network in order to be eligible for a so called good will gesture. Could it be, JLR offer a goodwill gesture let them escape the recall procedure ? In Spain - 2018 F Pace - Frightened away from the Sports due to crank failures
Gone - A couple of RRS, A couple of Disco's. However thinking of another Sport.

In the case of Andys car it really does make you sick. Censored SVR 2018 in Santorini Black.

Is n't this engine built for LR by Ford? It's certainly evolved from the Ford/PSA partnership. If so how often is it failing with othe brands?

RRS sold and replaced with a Skoda Kodiaq after appalling RR Dealer experience and LR inability to supply new cars in any sort of reasonable time frame..

Problem is, you will never find out the actual amount, due to the age/value of the vehicle, take an older Jag or Sport, worth between sod all and Censored all, so there is no way people will fork out more than the car is worth on a new engine. In Spain - 2018 F Pace - Frightened away from the Sports due to crank failures

I wonder 'if' you'd taken back ownership (not suggesting this would have been wise) if LR could/would have slid out of their obligations quite so easily.

When I contacted LRCS they said the warranty is transferable as the warranty is with the vehicle not the owner but they still found a way not to pay out.

It's still happening with the latest models, a friends Disco 5 engine blew up & it took him 3 weeks to get LR to agree to buy the car back from him, the car had only done 10,000 miles ! Shocked

Good grief, do you have any details on the cause of failure?

The 3.0 v6 diesel in the D5 is a bit different from the SDV6. --

Which is pretty disgusting; but sadly not unexpected.

JLR seem to have a new understanding of customer care. We had to return a new Jag XF (within 6 weeks) because radiator fell apart, rear diff leaked rear pad wore out, air vents jammed, rising gear knob stuck.

Their Customer Service team appear to have a well rehearsed set of denials.

They do have what could be great products but the penny pinching and pressure on their suppliers has (IMO) forced shortcuts on deploying the design spec. If you consider how long, for example, turbo-chargers and crankshaft have been made for donkey's years so reliability should be a given and failures virtually unknown. If you take something as mundane as the old Saab 900 Turbo or the very early Audi Quatro turbo or engine failures were extremely rare with engines lasting well over 250k miles.
