I have one of these repair kits, they have saved my bacon more than once, good for a "get you home" repair, and actually they will stand up to some speed. MY2016 HSE D SDV6 - gone due to fuel dilution problems.

this is a fix if the tire has not been driven flat and is a temp measure for rear tires , Riding a motorbike I am often having to fix tires in the bush and have got this down to an easy job.

Those type plugs are only for temporary use in the uk,,Ive used them before but I wouldn't like to think I was running round in a 2 ton plus car with one in.Ive used them on truck tyres just to get them home or to nearest tyre depot.I also use them in lawnmower tyres as they don't do over 10mph.

As most decent vehicles have TPMS you will be aware if the slow leak starts again. Biggest issue I think is when a Tyre is run flat and then repaired with one of these, inside damage unseen may lead to a deadly failure. If I had nearly worn out tyres and had the OP's slow leak I would do on car repair and run until tyre replacement only on the rear. M16 SVD8 ,4.4 HSE with a few extras, Sold R50 , Wife SQ5 , BMW R1200GSW.

On the subject of punctures, what tyre pressures are peeps running.

The pressure placard tells me 34psi at the front and 37psi at the rear.

After 6 months I decided to check and found the fronts were 40psi and the rears 37.. pdi my arse..... Gone:

I didn't trust PDI which is why I checked tyre pressures as soon as I brought the car home from dealership on day 1. All 4 were 50+ psi which explained the less comfortable ride home Shocked Brought down to the recommended pressures (34 and 37). Worth doing a wheel alignment check as well. Mine was OK when done a week after collecting the car but you never know. While we're talking about PDI, headlight beams were also set too high and were dazzling oncoming vehicles' drivers. Current: Volvo XC90 T8 Inscription Pro PHEV with some optionals on top

I run 36 38 but since this car is not equipped with TPMS it could be anything between checks. M16 SVD8 ,4.4 HSE with a few extras, Sold R50 , Wife SQ5 , BMW R1200GSW.

6 months? Wow. 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders
2008 TDV8 - it was a labour of love and is much missed

TPMS is for people too daft to appreciate the benefits of accurate tyre pressures. Like the dashboard oil checker, which is for people who never would have checked the oil anyway. And still won`t.

The RRSport is a heavy car and is better with the tyres kept pretty firm. I run 40 psi all round. It takes the vagueness out of the steering and helps the tyres to wear nice and square. 34psi is too soft on the front end. LR only do that to avoid criticism of harsh ride.

If I were towing more regularly than I do, I would run 50psi in the rear.

Try it at 40psi. It works! The TPMS won`t notice anyway, but you can set it to the 'heavy load' setting if you like.

Actually TPMS is very good when you have a puncture whilst driving, it notifies you before you notice the tyre going down. I have it on my motorcycle and this has been very good for getting to a garage before the tyre is flat and enabling me to do a repair and then use the garage air supply. When researching the TPMS you will notice the reason why they are mandatory is due to safety I read somewhere that under inflated tyres caused a great number of accidents.

I do agree manually checking Tyre Pressure and Oil Level is a good habit , I hate the auto oil as the only source of checking level , RR electronics are known for failure. M16 SVD8 ,4.4 HSE with a few extras, Sold R50 , Wife SQ5 , BMW R1200GSW.

How accurate is sufficiently accurate for you? My TPMS shows exactly the same pressures as my digital air compressor (rounded to whole numbers). Good enough for me as I very much doubt fractions of a psi matter.

No other way for owners to check oil except on the dash of newer RRS (both L320 and L494) but then again I have always found it makes sense, for example shows full to the top just after a service. As long as it is within the 'OK' range it's fine. I did have a failed oil level sensor in my previous Sport but it reported a sensible fault rather than simply displaying incorrect information. When that happens, you just get it fixed. It doesn't try to fool you into believing all is good when it isn't. Current: Volvo XC90 T8 Inscription Pro PHEV with some optionals on top

I've checked the accuracy of the TPMS and it's very good, very happy it's on my RRS. 2017 MY17 SDV6 SE

I don`t disagree with any of the comments above. My point is that responsible owners would be checking their tyre pressures anyway. Doing, so gives you the opportunity to spot damage to the tyres too. Never looking at the tyres does not. TPMS is a legal requirement in Europe now in any case.

As for the electronic oil checking; it takes me about 20 seconds to lift the bonnet and dip the oil. With the dashboard system, you have to warm the engine, then switch off and wait 10 mins for a reading. Talk about a solution to a non-existent problem! Laughing

Agreed that oil level check in the instrument panel, while accurate, is a pain. In addition to being quick, dipstick also gives you some idea about the condition of the oil. Then again, the service indictor probably takes that into account. We got way off topic with this one though Embarassed Current: Volvo XC90 T8 Inscription Pro PHEV with some optionals on top
