United Kingdom 2007 Range Rover Sport TDV8 HSE Santorini Black
RRS or Disco4

Just under 12 months ago I bought my 57 plate V8 sport for £18990.
One owner and full history and only 49k.
I have been looking at a 63 plate disco 4 sdv6 at a dealer at £33k.
They have said they will allow me £12500 as a p/x.
I cannot believe how much these are now depreciating.
So do I keep my 10 year old sport which has still only covered 56k, or do I spend £21k for a 4 year old disco which has done the same mileage. ??????

This is very much a personal preference thing, I suggested to a mate (and LR master technician) last weekend that he should get a D3 or D4 rather than a L322 as his family car. He said that the Disco is by far the better car, but it is the white goods of the LR family, not something you get excited by and buy just because you want one (which the RRS clearly is).

If you want a Disco more than your RRS, do it, and you get a lot of toys but personally with such a low mileage your RRS sounds like a good car, if you can afford the fuel of the v8, I would hang onto it.

Keep the RRS. Spending the money won't get you a better vehicle - unless you need the seven seats and bigger boot. You'll get better mpg, certainly, and the 8-speed gearbox is well regarded, but that's about it.

As for depreciation, don't forget that the £12.5k you've been offered isn't what it will be sold for. 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders
2008 TDV8 - it was a labour of love and is much missed

Try posting that over on Disco3/4 and watch the response... Whistle

Disco owners are as passionate about their choice as many RRS owners are about theirs. 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders

Heh yes, I imagine they would call me a tart and a hairdresser Smile I have a new appreciation of Discos after joining their forum, and it is undoubtably a more sensible choice, but the disco is a car you buy because you need one, the RRS is a car you buy because you want one. I am very tempted to pick up a D3 V8 for offroading thou

Performance wise after a TDv8 you won't notice a lot of difference, handling wise D4 is an ocean liner in a storm compared to the TDv8 as the D4 doesn't have the trick extras in the suspension system that the RRS TDv8 has. Fuel consumption will be a little better on the SDv6 D4 though. 2020 Pangea Green 1st Edition D240 New Defender 110 is here and loving it

I've got a TDV6 3.0 RRS & a TDV6 2.7 Disco3 and other than the power of the newer engine and the interior refinement of the RRS, the main difference is the handling. The Disco feels like barge wallowing about compared to the stiffness and responsiveness of the RRS.

They both have their uses, I use the Disco when extra seats or load lugging is needed but would choose the RRS if I wanted to enjoy the drive. 2011 RRS 3.0TDV6 HSE

How many miles a year does the OP drive? His TDV8 is the same age as mine and has 100,000 miles less on the clock! Shocked

On low annual mileage, I'd be changing the TDV8 for a petrol and really enjoy the miles... Bow down 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders

Scotland 2008 Range Rover Sport TDV8 HSE Java Black

Had a D4 on a 64 plate and now have a TDV8 RRS on an 08 plate and I think the RRS is a far nicer machine to drive and live with everyday (other than the economy), didn't need the 7 seats and the handling on the RRS is much more fun.

Far nicer people on the forums too ! Laughing D3 LHD - great car !
