To get back on topic I don't think you can have a switch to go from one map to another since changing maps involves overwriting the ECU firmware and that can't be done instantly. Some exotic cars do have switchable modes but I'm guessing that involves a whole lot more electronics hardware.

With those rubbish so-called 'tuning' boxes (that are really just a fancy box with a resistor inside to fool the ECU into overfuelling the engine) it is possible to have a switch but that's different and not what you are looking for. 2008 MY Java Black TDV8 HSE

I'm sure the old M5's use the sport or Race button.

For example, normal mode, 300bhp, sport mode 500bhp.
The button adjust all sorts of things, throttle response, gear shift, power, suspension, traction control cut in etc.


The old astra 200bhp FWD also has a sport button on the dash, I assume this limits the power. Very useful for a powerful FWD.
Even the 150bhp diesel had a button.

But the buttons were all integrated from the start by the factory

Isn't saying "or thought about doing any of those tacky 'mods" just as snide as the remarks you were complaining about?

I'm also trying find someone to fit a smaller pulley and remap, I am however concerned my most local options don't have a rolling road so are just flashing generic tunes.

As we proved on the SRT8 forum this can be dangerous at worst but at best only part way to a proper tune.

After testing 10 "identical" cars before and after tuning they all differed to some extent, the best and worst differed by over 40hp.

When they were given individual tunes not generic ones they all released more HP and the differential reduced to only 12 HP from worst to best.

Most generic tunes are "safe" as the original tuner has little or no idea what else you might have done to your car

Can any one help with a company who install smaller pulleys, tune and rolling Rioja do test the results ?

My remark about the 'mods' could be considered to be snide, but it wasn't directed at anyone and it was also an opinion rather than an insult.

Pretty much the only people in the UK that specialise in machining the nose cone down etc.

Changing the pulley will give you an increased boost at low revs, giving you more power at launch, however the supercharger starts to loose power once it hits 15,500rpm so by putting a smaller pulley on you're moving the power lower down the rpm range and decreasing the life of the charger. Not only that but at higher rpms the eaton charger develops an inordinate ammount of heat, so unless you improve the intercoolers you're not really going to see any benefits (other than a frantic 40 second dash followed by an asthmatic limp while everything cools down).

The best/safest mods for this engine (when on a relative budget) is to replace the exhaust with a stainless high flow system and removing the cats at the same time, improved intercoolers and aux pump all rounded off nicely with a remap (from what I've seen Alive are one of the most trustworthy).

Thats the supercharger speed, not the engine speed, I've had a look round and can't find the ratio that the charger spins at comparatively to the engine.

This website gives ratios for the Eaton M112 based on upper and lower pulley sizes. But as I'm at work and don't know how big the stock pulleys are I'm unable to say when you'll hit th 15.5k boost limit.

Good info but I'm confused why various sites say you can get 40-50hp from a 10% pulley but you say it goes asthmatic and does nothing

I've been on various forums long enough to ask where this info came from?

Not sure about ratio's or rpm for that matter but I do know Alive Tuning re-mapped my 5.0L S/C and fitted upgraded s/c pulley and it pulls like a train all the way with no noticable "tail off". According to their rolling road it's producing 560+bhp and 750Nm torque.
