Should I still buy it? (SC V8 vs XC90)

Hi all

I am in a bit of a difficulty in making a decision. Basically I can buy:

1) rr sport scv8 autobiography dynamic 2014

Or

2) volvo xc90 brand new with 3 year warranty, 3 year service and have £6500 to spare

Big concern with LR is reliability having owned 2 Discoverys in the past (3 and 4). I have owned volvos in the past and like their safety and features.

Before anyone says anything, I know the RR is hands down a more luxurious car and that the engine is a gem.

I am not comparig them in terms of cars as much as I am in terms of the deal.

I am very concerned having heard horror stories on depreciation, thst "car will drop £1-2k a month, etc"

I know about fuel economy and it doesnt bother me as much as depreciation.

Volvos are not brilliant either but it is brand new... One car is about £49k the other £55.5k

Thanks for your help and pls let me know ur views

2013 Range Rover Sport SDV6 HSE Stornoway Grey

Do you need 7 seats and acres of space with pretty poor pace by all accounts from its weedy 2ltr 4 pot engine and "only" AWD (Volvo), or a lot more pace with a bit less space but unbeatable off road performance and full 4WD with low ratios? Have you thought about a new F Pace if AWD is all you need, it has huge boot space, great looks and 5 seats, it can also be had with 3.0ltr S/C V6 or the SDv6 or even the Ingenium 2.0ltr and rumoured to be an SVR version coming along. 2020 Pangea Green 1st Edition D240 New Defender 110 is here and loving it
2018 Melting Silver Mini Countryman PHEV - soon to be replaced
2015MY Corris Grey SDv6 HSE Dynamic, the best car I have ever owned, totally reliable only a cou0le of rattles in 3 years, now no longer in my care
Also in my garage is a 1996 TDi300 Defender 90 County HT made into a fake CSW

The Range Rover should have lost £1000 - £1500 per month from new already so depreciation should come down the older the car gets.

As the Volvo is new I expect it to lose more over the term you plan to own it than a used Range Rover would.

Well this is an interesting choice, a 4WD vs a Soft roader. If you are going for the soft roader then there are a lot better choices than the Volvo IMO.

V8 or V6 Diesel Touareg , SQ5 Audi . Macan , Q7 perhaps , all these are cheaper new than the RRS. M16 SVD8 ,4.4 HSE with a few extras, Sold R50 , Wife SQ5 , BMW R1200GSW.
