I'm So Excited - Viewing/Collection Tomorrow!!

So i have wanted a RRS since they came out, I remember the piece they did on TG with Clarkson smoking one around Salisbury Plain so my desire to own one is deep rooted.

I returned to this forum recently and was contemplating a much newer example circa £20k however having viewed a couple and done some reading I decided that I would rather an older cheaper one with some money in reserve to take care of it and not finance myself up to the hilt with money that would be better enjoyed elsewhere. So I chopped my budget and research began, so many for sale which seem to vary so much in terms of price, spec, mileage and most importantly price. Learning from others posts on here I was keen to find a low owner example with a documented history.

Well a few days ago I found it, the car is a 2006 TDV6 HSE in black with ivory leather which I absolutely adore and with the dark exterior colour I think it really sets the car off. In fact when I look at the pictures of the interior it looks a lot newer than some of the black interior ones I looked at - this might just be me!

Anyway its a 1 owner car from new, older gent bought it and specced it well but interestingly left off the privacy glass - to start with this was a stumbling block for me because every other one has it so I was used to seeing darkened glass at the rear. However the more I looked at the pics the more it grew on me so I figure I can live with it for a bit and see how I feel about it, I am sure I could always get them tinted at a later date if I wanted???

It has a FLRSH for the first 5 years and thereafter it went to a performance specialist and is backed up with all service paperwork, the MOT history is good only failed twice on a faulty numberplate light and another lighting issue so honest look like tyres/brakes were ever worn right down and consequently highlighted in the MOT.

So I am off tomorrow to inspect the car/documents and have a drive and hopefully bring it home, I am so excited after all these years that I might be able to own one for myself. The cam belt is due so I called Land Rover for a quote and the dealer has knocked the cost of this off the price!

Fingers crossed tomorrow should be a good day......

Si

Hi,

Nice looking car, first mod colour code door handles. Thumbs Up

Just curious if it's 2006 car Cambelt should of been done at 7 years or 105k, so may not need doing but if they are going to do it FOC carry on.

Cheers
Col

Thanks Col Thumbs Up yeah have a little list in mind -

Colour code door handles
Clear side repeaters
Fit personal plate
Remove ironwork from rear Laughing
Possibly some side steps (OEM)

Then enjoy, I have wanted one that long I don't want to start messing with it straight away, that will come in time I am sure.

It doesn't have any mats and it's their like the black rubber Land Rover ones with aluminium looking corners, is there any particular/preferred place to source those??

Yeah I thought the same about the cambelt, based on the previous owner I wonder if it isn't documented in a bill somewhere so will have a good look through but like you say if they are reducing the price to have it done then happy days!

Beaut! Personally I really like it as it is without mods as its so understated. Each to their own though! Have fun 😊

Thanks I agreed, there are so many I have seen that have been meddled with too much, this almost stood out to me for the opposite reason!!

Can anyone shed any light on the 'tow hitch' to use a polite term?!?

Also can anyone tell me about the alloys, not seen these much on HSE - were they standard option for it when new??

Just been using search tool to try and find an original brochure (PDF) but struggling, does anyone know where I can find one or send me one, just want to compare spec to see how 'fully loaded' it really is.....

Bit of a shin basher that one but looks as if a few spanners will take it off pretty quick. As I said earlier I reckon the car looks great as standard. What's the mileage?

Yeah absolutely love how it looks and desperately wanted Ivory leather which is very different to look at then the Almond that I have seen on others, Ivory seems more white/grey.

Believe it or not the old boy has covered 105k in it since new and clearly cared for it looking at the pictures, Pirelli Scorpion tyres fitted all round which I always think speaks of a fastidious owner. Lots of things I have noticed - grey trim around radio facia and gear selector so often seems scratched, this is pristine. The leather on the lower drivers seat squab doesn't look to be worn at all compared to some I have seen which are shiny/ripped/sagging.

All pointers are good at the mo......

That looks a nice car,one owner & full history you don't come across those often.I would say the towbar should just unbolt.if it's the car you want buy it,just keep the history up & don't put cheap oil in it & it'll do another 105k's.Probably worth putting a warranty on it also.

Cambelt should have been done a couple of years ago (7 years OR 105k miles) so that's already a red flag for maintenance. Make sure they do all of the belts - cambelt and auxiliary belts.

The tow bar is the Land Rover fixed bar. Two bolts on the chassis and then undo the key lock and it should drop out. If it's been fitted for a long time, it might be seized in the housing requiring a good rounds of swearing to remove! Odd that the tow ball has been removed. Also it looks like it might have been painted to make it look nice.

Find out what he has been towing if you can. If it's been pulling a big tin tent or trailer every weekend then there will be more wear in the drive train - especially the gearbox. Look at the history: is there evidence that the gearbox has had an oil change? What about the transfer box or diffs? At that age and mileage the diffs (10 years) and transfer (75k miles) box should have been changed. Hopefully as it's single owner there is a huge pile of paperwork for it. If not, why not?

At least if you're buying from a dealer you have lots of comeback. If it's not right then they must fix it - provided you didn't buy it knowing about the issue, of course.

It's a nice, original looking vehicle, which is refreshing. 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders
2008 TDV8 - it was a labour of love and is much missed

I doubt many will have had a gearbox oil change. Not a reason to reject the car.

LR state maintenance free.

Obviously I've done mine.

Agreed, not a reason to reject, but a sign, if done, of someone who is proactive in their maintenance. LR state maintenance free because any failure is likely to be well out if warranty. ZF, who make the gearbox, say oil change at 70-80k km. They changed to this having originally started with "filled for life" so that says that they see a problem leaving the oil in too long.

The transfer box and different should have been done though if LR's service schedule has been followed.

Thinking further, that vehicle is a 2006 which means it should have had, or be close to, the 150k service when the gearbox oil is changed. Remember the interval is time or distance whichever comes first. I'd push for the gearbox to be flushed or haggle accordingly. 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders
2008 TDV8 - it was a labour of love and is much missed
