Cross over pipe 2.7 tdv6

Hi Guys, Has anyone attempted to change a crossover pipe on their own without removing Gearbox.
Gearbox was replaced last year so i am very reluctant to let indie to remove gearbox to change crossover pipe. Dont really want to have hassle with the gearbox again, as she is running great up to the crossover pipe failing.

kind regards
Mike

It's been done: http://www.disco3.co.uk/forum/topic116505.html Thumbs Up

When you say the gearbox was replaced last year...? The cross over pipe has been known to fail if the brackets aren't re-fitted properly when the gearbox has been taken out; you wouldn't be alone if this is what's happened. Sad Visiting from DISCO3.CO.UK

crossover pipe

Hi Lost for Words
Just got off the phone to the garage that did my gearbox last year, and as suspected due to the warranty (18mths left ) on the gearbox they won't allow me to have the g/box removed by any other garage. I have to bite the bullet and have the Crossover pipe change carried out by them, which is bad news for me. They were a bit of a nightmare to deal with last summer. They had the rrs for over 2months to fit a replacement g/box and never answered the phone when i tried to contact them for a progress report.

Thanks for your reply.

If that was the case then I would be tempted to go elsewhere anyhow depending how much warranty you have left with the garage that fitted the box. You don't have much to loose, if you have a problem after the crossover pipe is fitted then it will be upto those people to put it right. 2008 G4 RRSport TDV8 current

Having attempted it many different ways, I'd lift the body Thumbs Up

6 hours start to finish, barring any major issues. And the gearbox doesn't have to come out

cross over pipe

Hi guys thanks for your replies, with almost 18months of warranty to go on the gearbox my hands are tied. I have to use the garage that did the gearbox change, going to drop it off tomorrow morning (wednesday). As for taking the body off the Indie said they prefer to remove the gearbox to access the cross over pipe, even after explaining about the problems that could cause me with regards to the gearbox warranty. So i will keep my fingers crossed that they get this repair done quickly for me.
I was contemplating having a go myself, but having lost my garage (converted into a room for my daughter 2 weeks ago) i now have nowhere to carry out such repairs. And i did not fancy lying on the cold/wet concrete for hours and hours.

Kind regards
Mike

Hi Andy K , the cross over pipe takes the exhaust gases from the right hand manifold to the left hand exhaust manifold and into the turbo. The TDV6 only has one turbo where as the 3.6 and 4.o ltr have two.

Mike

My only concern would be that if it was them that messed it up before, what is to stop them doing so again? Is it not possible to find someone who would do it with the body off and leave the gearbox alone? Visiting from DISCO3.CO.UK
