Tdv8 whine on load

Hi guys - have recently purchased a 2010 tdv8 and love it. Has has a couple of niggles all sorted out. Had done 50k miles but have noticed when driving on the motorway, if you put your foot down at say 75, the car picks up lovely but there is a slight whine coming from the passenger side (Almost as if it's coming through the air vent). I makes no noise like this at lower speeds.

Anyone got any ideas, or had this problem (I might regret asking this)?

Thanks,
Steve

It could be, but I had discounted that on basis that if I cruise at 80, say, there is no whine, and it's only on acceleration from that point.

Maybe ask Newbury 4x4 to take a look? Probably won't charge 👍 Visitor from fullfatrr.com

He said there is nothing wrong with it. He thought it was induction noise. In any case, time to stop worrying and enjoy the bloody thing now....

I drove by Newbury 4x4 today and saw a grey RRS TDV8 parked up. Guess it was yours. Thumbs Up 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders
2008 TDV8 - it was a labour of love and is much missed

It certainly was mate. Got to say I love it. Am used to driving a focus rs, so it's a bit different but fantastic to drive all the same and i was getting sick of hot hatches.

Out of interest, where do you get yours serviced? I'm pretty impressed with the guys at 4x4 so far...

Air filter is on the driver's side so unlikely to cause a noise on the passenger's side. 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders
2008 TDV8 - it was a labour of love and is much missed

Interestingly just took it out for the day. 'Whine' still there but am not worried given the guys at 4x4 seemed to think was fine. One thing I did notice was that the front engine bay squeaks approx 8 times after turning the engine off. Not something I had noticed before. Is that normal? I have the 10 seconds or so drone also which I guess is the electrics or something sorting themselves. Cheers, Steve

As an update on this, I have today been told it's the alternator. Not that bad but enough to cause the whine, although I have had no electrical issues which other seem to have had (in fact the electrics have been A1).

Does that seem right to those with any experience? Only when pressing the accelerator even slightly at speed to I get the whine. Personally, I am glad somewhere has not treated me like I'm going mad with a noise, but equally would value the opinion of others who may have had similar issues.

Have been told an alternator is 500 fitted. Does that seem ok?

Cheers,
Steve

I believe that the " squeaks" you hear when the engine is turned off is the egr valves,,,, mine does the same, apparently they function themselves when the engine is turned off 2010 RRS, TDV8
