Hi All,

I've recently acquired a 2007 TDV6 HSE RRS. One thing I've noticed is the temp gauge doesn't budge until after about 20 minutes driving, it then hesitatingly goes to point to the mid-position where it sits, as expected.

The temp sensor was swapped over for a new one today but on starting the car this evening the problem hadn't been resolved.

No other symptoms. Just had major service, no fault codes relating to this, no other symptoms I'm aware of.

Any ideas? I'm thinking new thermostat but I'm no expert!

mine does exactly the same, and has done for the past 4 years, why do you think it is faulty? 07,TDV8,Black, Black Heated leather all round, Rear Entertainment with Headpones & Remote, TV, DVD, Pure Dab Digital Radio, Sidesteps, Adaptive Headlights, sunroof, now working fuel burning heater )))

My temp gauge starts moving after around 1 mile of driving, and Upto exactly half way after 3-4 miles

20 minutes of driving to get up to temp does sound rather slow to me. My (admittedly different engine) TDV8 does basically as DM's does. It's quicker still if the ambient temp is low because the FBH kicks in and helps. 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders
2008 TDV8 - it was a labour of love and is much missed

Hi, mine does exactly as DM says but even quicker if the old FBH kicks in (2007 2. 2.7HSE) 2007, HSE, Cairnes Blue, Factory tints, Love it !!!

Thanks all for the responses, so it definitely sounds slower than the norm - my experience of driving Defenders and Discos is the warm up time is usually only a few mins...

FBH? Sorry to be dim

FBH = Fuel Burning Heater.
It's on the diesel engine RRS to help warm the engine when it's cold outside. It can also be programmed to 'fire up' at a set time to pre-heat the car ready for you.

I notice yours is a 2.7 TDV6 so it will have one fitted. If yours isn't enabled to be set to come on at a set time, one of the site sponsors can enable it for you at a very reasonable cost. Disc Mikey or Flack can certainly do this, as well as numerous others. I'm in the shed, I'll be back in the real world in a minute.

Well worth it in winter. Pre set your time the night before & wake up to a nice warm & defrosted car

It does use a bit of battery power though, but does only run for about half an hour which is sufficient.

You can also set the car to cool the interior in hot weather (not used much in UK, obviously), but this uses ambient outside air & not air conditioning, so isn't really cold.

Soo, next stop a new thermostat I'm still thinking?

Did a longer drive this morning and the needle spent most of the time at the bottom of the gauge. It found its way to the mid position a few times but then made it's way south again. Erratic is the best descriptor...

Landyrover - There is a 'Pressure Relief Housing' PRT.

From the manual:

"The PRT housing contains a normal thermostat, which is positioned such that the wax's temperature is controlled by both the coolant from the radiator and the bypass. This results in the thermostat being able to vary its opening temperature dependant on ambient conditions. The PRT also contains a sprung loaded valve, which limits the amount flow using the bypass. This means that the engine can run without coolant flowing through the bypass temporarily, to improve heater performance."

So perhaps try changing the whole assembly? Might be a good idea to first make sure the viscous coupled fan is not seized and running all the time so overcooling. 2008 MY Java Black TDV8 HSE
