Hi All,

Joined the forum at the end of last year when I purchased a 2010 RRS. Had hoped to post some pics up but haven't had time to clean it properly and unfortunately the bonnet was keyed over Christmas so they'll have to wait.

Anyway its a facelift 2010 3.0 TDV6 in Bali Blue with cream leather. I bought it at a reasonable price which left some money aside for hidden fixes - which is just as well as today I'm having issues with the bonnet closing!

Yesterday I noticed the passenger side of the bonnet had unlatched so had a read through the forum to see what it might be. Today I've opened the bonnet, checked the latches which are moving fine, sprayed WD40 on them, the cable appears to be in place and given the right-hand sensor a good push. Now the bonnet won't latch on either side, tried slamming but nothing just won't engage. I'm no expert and I've ran out of ideas so if anyone know's what I'm missing, please shout!!

That's a weird one. Apologies if these suggestions sound a bit obvious but have you perhaps moved both latches into the 'closed' position when fiddling with them? If that was the case then just pulling the lever inside the car should open them again.

Alternatively - non latching latches in other cars I've had the mixed pleasure of owning has meant either the latches are seized in the open position or the cable is seized in the outer and holding them in the open position or the cable has broken.

What does the lever feel like: does it return to the detente position if you pull it and then let go or does it just flop about and stay wherever you put it? 2008 MY Java Black TDV8 HSE

Well I fixed the problem but not entirely convinced it won't happen again. I removed the righ-hand latch so I could get at the cable and gave this a good pull to make sure it wasn't seized in the outer - which I suspect it was. Fixed the latch back on and it closed up fine. However I don't think the seized cable would have caused the left-hand side to lift last week as it was originally locked in place and if the cable hasn't moved, the bonnet shouldn't have. I'll keep an eye on it over the next few days/weeks and get the cable replaced if necessary.

Good to hear it is fixed for now at least. You could make yourself a cable oiler using an old school oil can like your Dad used to have and a bit of tubing. Ask a biker if you aren't sure what I mean

Yes I know what you mean. I rang the local dealer today and they suggested booking the car in for a free health check to get all the essentials checked over for piece of mind (suspension, bushes, brakes, etc etc) and they will take a look at the bonnet at the same time. No doubt they'll tell me the brake pads are 30% worn and need replacing but no harm getting them to look
