Warning lights coming and going

Wondering if anyone has had anything similar and can advise?

In the last 3 or 4 days I have had the park brake fault flash up on the dash and the hand brake would not work, this appears to now be away and my handbrake works as normal?

Then just this afternoon on the motorway about 75miles into my journey, the yellow suspension light flashed on... I pulled off at the next junction, switched off and back on and that has gone away now too. A bit of googling suggests it could be a dodgy battery flashing these warnings up?

Prior to the first handbrake warning my car had been parked up for around 9 days as my job means I'm away usually for 2 weeks at a time. Hoping with the recent cold weather and being parked up it could just be the battery?

I'd also get your alternator checked. Common problem on the TDV8's I'm afraid.

Agreed. Get them both checked. Also, check that the battery is the correct one - it's not unknown for the wrong size battery to be installed. This doesn't help the alternator. 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders
2008 TDV8 - it was a labour of love and is much missed

Going to test with a voltage meter tomorrow before taking to the garage... What should I look for voltage wise?

Attached pictures of the battery currently on the vehicle? Looks a bit cheap?

Voltage meter reading was 12.70 with everything off. Turned on the engine/heater/lights etc and it was 12.40, got nobody else here at the minute, so jumped in and gave it a quick rev and it creeped up to 12.53, although when that gradually went back down to the 12.40 mark when just idling......

Any advice?

The reading with engine running and load on seems too low. Should stabilise in the 14v ish region if the alternator is working properly.

12.7 with the engine off and nothing switched on sounds about right but you should take this reading after the car has been sat overnight. If you are worried about the battery type check the capacity and cranking power written on it against the recommended numbers in the handbook. 2008 MY Java Black TDV8 HSE

I just checked voltage on mine. Not used it for a few days and before starting it had 12.0 volts, usually it sits at about 12.3 or so before starting. It started fine and jumped up to 14.3v with engine running. Battery was fitted new by LR dealer 6 months ago and from new it never had more than about 12.4 when cold.

Left it overnight and checked the battery this morning before switching on the car. 12.4V, then I took it on a 5min drive and checked again. 14.8V. Strange.

Follow up... Suspension light hasn't come back on since that one and only time. The park brake fault was due to a dodgy connection in the wiring in the rear chassis. £280 fix at LR dealer.

Hi Mike! Could you tell more where the wiring problem was in the rear chassis? I´m having the same issues with the Park Brake Fault -light flashing at startup! It seems to amplify when I´m pressing gas pedal. But the problem goes away in a minute after startup.

The usual place is the wiring in the wheel arches going to the EPB module. Thumbs Up Visiting from DISCO3.CO.UK

Sorry mate, I have no idea exactly where it was, all the dealer told me was what I said above. Apologies I can't be of more help. Think it was a pretty simple fix though.

Just noticed this bit. I would check your alternator first. Thumbs Up Visiting from DISCO3.CO.UK

Thanks for the info! I have to check it next. Voltage seems to be quite ok. It´s 12.7V idle and about 15.4V when running idle. I dont know if thats a bit too high? Also when I press gass pedal and all this fault occurs, the engine rpm sails up and down about 100-200rpm and stabilizes when the fault goes away. Nav display also seems to boot it self during this Smile

But during winter times when I have used Webasto aux heater, nothing of this happens. When engine water temp is higher everything works perfectly!

Last week I changed both EGR valves and hoped it would fix this one too but nope!

12.7V with the engine off and car asleep is basically a 100% charged battery so that's good. I think 15.4V when idling is a tad high but hopefully one of the site sponsoring mechanics will be able to confirm. 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders
2008 TDV8 - it was a labour of love and is much missed
