Any normal dealer would get in on the fun and let you collect the new car before giving the old one back if it is explained to them. You could do as MAW says and also sign a statement explaining the basics.

Let us know how it goes but you must know by now that most women are good detectives. When I am planning to buy my wife something I have to start squirrelling cash away beforehand so that there is no credit card trail.
