Very slow to fill with diesel

I bought a used (2012) RRS L320 SDV6 three months ago and love it. Except when it comes to filling up with diesel. The filling nozzle cuts off at anything more than a very gentle fill rate so it takes me ages to fill up. Furthermore, because the nozzle cuts off so readily I can't tell when the tank is full and twice I've overfilled it. I've tried holding the nozzle in different positions / angles but it doesn't seem to help. The dealer, Guy Salmon Northampton, just says that they are slow to fill. However, I can't believe it should be as bad as this. I've only ever filled up at Tesco stations (because of the discount deal) but presume that its pumps aren't any different.

Has anyone else experienced this? Is it something I've just got to live with? (My wife has an Evoque and it's no problem.)

Thanks for your help.

Welcome to the forum Thumbs Up

Your not the only one - I only use shell & there nozzles are not so temperamental - still takes some getting used to Big Cry Check the tank capacity - & gauge it from the amount you put in - it may stop the overfilling.

Mmmmm.... I use different fuel stations and have never had a problem with either sport!
Something not quite correct I think but best just try another brand just to verify it's not the type of pump which Tesco use (which it shouldn't be but who knows!)
I just love dealers who give those sorts of answers! Talk about insult to your intelligence!

I had the same problem in my L200 pickup, turned out the filler hose had a kink, they replaced it and I could then use the HGV fillers! Saves loads of time

PS never ever use tesco, sainsburys, Asdas or morrissons diesel, they put the max amount of biodiesel allowed in their fuel, and that's what killed the rail in my L200, a 1500 quid replcement

Your misfueling device has definately been activated by someone trying to put pertol in to the tank. Look in your workshop manual to see how to reset it. Thumbs Up

What an idiot I am. Just been to GS and the mis-fuelling device had indeed been triggered. In my naivity I had assumed that the idea was to prevent you filling up with petrol but apparently it just slows you down so you realise something is wrong. It's now been reset and I am assuming that my problem is solved.

It has been like it since I bought the car three months ago. The mechanic said that it was probably delived from LR with the device triggered (he had seen that happen before) and the previous owner hadn't noticed / bothered.

Thanks everyone.

It should be in the boot of your vehicle with all the tools for changing a wheel. Its will be a yellow plastic thingy.

I don't think earlier aussies RRS have it - my 07MY doesn't have it so I can quite happily fill with petrol in a seniors moment. Big Cry 07MY RRS TDV6

The mis-fueling device is INSIDE the filler tube, looks like teeth hanging down.

The reseting device is in the boot, it is yellow 2016 RRS 4.4 TDV8 Autobiography Dynamic in Montalcino Red and Stealth Kit

Still very annoying (funny really!) that the dealer said that's how it's supposed to be!

Of course it begs the question of who triggered it by trying to fill with petrol? Very Happy
