Help please.....I get a vibration through the steering wheel at between 50 and 60 mph. The wheels are all perfectly balanced...it was very slight (if atall) on 20s but since i have fitted the 22s it is much worse...what could be the cause? I dont think i have shims but i think the wheels are nice and tight...someone suggested maybe a sticking caliper, but im not too convinced about that one...if you get an answer...let me know Gone but not forgotten, 2005 RRS SC first edition, BMW 2010 Z4,TVR Tamora, TVR Cerb, MERC SL 55 AMG, E46 M3, Z4, Jag S type R, Skyline R33 GTR 640 bhp, Evo FQ 400, L322 RR, X5, Lotus Esprit V8 twin turbo, Lotus Elise 135r, Nissan Murano, Honda S2000, 911, Boxster s...and a few more |

Hi Hunter, I think I may have solved mine! Firstly I would check again that you have the shims and the wheel is tight on the hub without the wheel nuts on (this was my first issue at 50 - 60 mph) now resolved with replacement shims that are tighter on the hub. I then started to get a vibration between 70 - 80 mph, this was not a wheel balance issue but what can only be described as a "shaking" across the front of the car and through the front seats, but very slightly. Took the new wheels and tyres back to my supplier and it turns out the 2 front tyres are very slightly oval, this could only be seen by putting the tyre on a wheel balance machine, if you looked over the top of the tyre as it got up to speed you could see the up and down movement of the tyre tread moving a few mil. This meant that at a higher speed the car would have been "rocking" from side to side. When the boss saw this he just ordered me 4 new tyres and is fitting them tomorrow ...... So hopefully this will be the end of it, I will let you know how it goes 2011 RRS 3.0TDV6 HSE Santorini Black, black leather, 22" Calibre Altus black / polished wheels, full colour coded. |
