Hi all, thinking of a 2010/11 RRS

Hi all newbie here

well as it says we're thinking of getting a RRS (hopefully will be getting a decent test drive next weekend). The brief started out (from SWMBO) as a 'nice' car with a bit of luxury (and a good driving position, which element was added in right at the last moment). We started out looking at Q3/Kuga and things just progressed from there... at one point a Jag XF was a very strong runner but SWMBO decided she wanted a lofty driving perch so after looking at just about everything the RRS seems to tick all the boxes:

Looks great
Feels great inside
Great quality
Doesn't feel like a bus (compared to the Disco, a matter of opinion I know)

Now the question is we've decided to concentrate on looking at MY 2010/11 and under 50,000 miles what is worth having on these and what is a useless gimmick? I know some have got cool boxes, which, while nice, is obviously not a must have and most seem to be autos (which is a must have). Colour-wise black is out and the faves are blue, red, grey with a light/tan interior... any thoughts to look for spec-wise? Avoid? etc etc

How about this one - http://www.rrsport.co.uk/forum/topic36036.html - 2012 for the price of a 2011 from dealer Very Happy

SE are cheapest but tend to be less sought after. HSE are most popular and come fully loaded Cool

Reliability is a lottery - some never let you down and others bankrupt you so make sure you have lots of savings or a proper warranty IMHO LR's own is best. Check service history meticulously and if it doesn't look perfect walk away no matter how good a deal - £12k for an engine will wipe out any saving on purchase price Shocked

Lots of great posts on here so do some searches and welcome Bow down Wanted a Series 2 LR since childhood but previously owned MY16 Disco Sport HSE TD4 Auto, MY13 RR Sport Black Edition TDV6 Auto, MY10 RR Sport HSE TDV6 Auto, 2007 Freelander 1 Freestyle TD4 Soft Top, 2009 Freelander 2 GS TD4 Auto, 2007 Freelander 2 GS TD4, 2004 Disco 2 Metropolis Auto, 2002 Disco 2 GS, 2000 Freelander 1 SE TD4 SW

Still hoping for a S2 one day!

Thanks for the advice thus far - tbh I should have stated that I was going to look at an HSE given the bits n bobs I've read so far.

I was minded to go LR dealer anyway for the 'peace of mind' aspect and the fact that they appear to get the 'cream of the crop' so to speak, the warranty aspect is also of great interest given the bork potential and costs involved. Actually popped over to my local (Lookers Chelmsford) and was very happy with the service received. Stated that we were only on an initial browse (having not really looked @ LR before) with no intention of buying atm and the salesman couldn't have been more helpful and didn't try to rush us at all . Definitely going to be seeing them again once we've made the decision to actually slump up the ££££!

Looking forward the next step - be interesting driving a diseasal after so many year of petrol (though I'll be keeping my mustang!!)

Hi Waylander

Got mine from Lookers Colchester, Kim there was most helpful.

I looked at the showroom stock and ended up with one he had coming in as a trade in, 11 plate HSE with sunroof for £33k, only 17000 miles....

Good luck

tbh after owning both id go and look at an x5, it wont bankrupt you, admittingly my rrs has had little to no issues however i had 2 x5s before this and did megger milage in both and had no issues at all. just my opinion of course, my rrs is a love hate, i love its driving position and comfort however its currently managing 10 mpg worse average than the diesel x5 and is a lot slower.

Did consider an X5 but tbh the just don't 'do' it for me. Look quite good on the outside (though the rrs looks better, imo). When you get to the interior though there is no contest at all - the rrs just strikes me as being that much more special (in a good way!). I'll admit that the extra 10mpg wouldn't go amiss... but if mpgs were the deciding factor we'd not be looking at a luxury SUV in the 1st place. Add into the fact that an astra will be the schlepping car and the mustang another weekend/fun car the rrs should have a (relatively) quiet time of it Wink

totally agree with the rrs looking better and mpg is now not a factor for me now doing about 3k per year in my rrs and did 45k per year when i had x5s, thats what throws me as to me the x5s are a better all round package just the rrs does something to you that they dont, however im after pure speed next so im goint to test an x5m, ml63 and a 5.0sc but have a awfull suspision that the rrs will feel more special.

Hi Waylander,
I find Lookers Chelmsford very helpful, always had mine serviced there and never had a problem, not sure what they are like for sales as I bought mine from James at Lookers Park Royal (now at Hadley Green), one of the site sponsors.
Mine is for sale (Muddywheels has kindly directed you to my advertisement - thanks Muddy Thumbs Up )
Once you've had a look around and if mine is still available PM me if you're interested and like Muddy says you could get a 2012 for the price of a dealers 2011, I am open to offers Thumbs Up 2019 BMW X3 2.0i M Sport in metalic black- Brilliant

got to be honest Mike your one looks amazing - BUT it would be substantially over budget. I know that in real terms it is a great buy however budgets are budgets Confused

I love RRSs, I have owned 2. They are very comfortable. But as a "driver's car" my X6 leaves them for dead dynamically and for performance. But, I still miss my RRSs. They are great on the highway but the X6 loves corners much more than the RRS. Gone - 2008 Stornoway Grey RRS 2.7 TDV6

BK - my driving 'style' or preference is relaxed cruising - too old for hooning around that much.... like I said earlier I've got a Mustang so the whole sporty driving thing is not as much of an issue to be fair (though if I'm totally honest I rather suspect that the X5/6 would leave my mussie for dead too Laughing).

I don't get much chance to hoon, I only live 1.5 miles from the city.. I agree with you and if you have another toy, get an RRS, they are beautiful if you get a good one.

As I have said before, if Mrs BKHK would drive an SUV, it would be my second car, not that we need 2 big cars, there is only 2 of us. But she likes her Mini Cooper so another SUV isn't on the cards, unless I can justify a 3rd car. I'm having a bit of trouble with that one to be honest Laughing Gone - 2008 Stornoway Grey RRS 2.7 TDV6
