Personally, if I had that amount of hassle I would be pretty fed up too. Unfortunately you are still coming across blasé!

I don't doubt for a minute that the owner of the RRS in the OP will be fed up, I'm pointing out the amount of wasted effort there is in going to these great lengths and working themselves up into a lather and going on an attention seeking mission.

Attention seeking? Or drawing attention to a problem? I think he was doing the latter.

What this story does highlight is the problem with the current franchise system. If I go and buy a new car, I buy it from a dealership. Sure, they have all of the manufacturer's branding everywhere etc. but I'm still buying it from the dealership not from the manufacturer. Any issues I have I have to take them to the dealership as they are the supplier, they are who I have my contract with. If you have a good dealership then you are more likely to get a good resolution of any issues raised. A bad dealership, however, leaves you messing around. Ultimately, the quality of the service you get is down to how good the guys in the workshop are. Good mechanics sort out issues and make the whole experience somewhat more bearable.

It's true that whilst still in the manufacturer's warranty period you can take it elsewhere to get it sorted, this often means you have to travel further and take more of your time to do so. You also have to use a manufacturer's franchised garage.

Of course, in the early part of your ownership of the vehicle you could just say "I've had enough of these problems and I'm rejecting the vehicle" and the dealership has to repay you / get you a new vehicle. But how many people know they can do so and how many are prepared for the upheaval that results as you are left without a vehicle for a period of time.

Buying second hand also has the issue - you think "ah, I'll buy a manufacturer approved vehicle to be safe" but you're still buying from a garage and on slightly older vehicles you are often relying on an insurance-backed warranty rather than the manufacturer themselves.

At no point in the process do you deal with the manufacturer - they are arm's length and can just walk away whenever they wish. And sometimes that's what they do.

I think what is telling is how long the various manufacturers will provide a warranty for. I believe European manufacturers provide 2 years plus the third is a dealership warranty. Look at the Koreans - they provide up to 7 year warranties on their vehicles. I think that tells you a lot about how the various manufacturers view their own products and the people who buy them. I reckon Land Rover would go bust if they had to directly warranty their products for 7 years - imagine how much effort they would make to make the vehicles reliable in the first place - do that or they'd end up paying out more than the vehicle's sticker price in warranty repairs!

I'd like to see the ability to take your vehicle to any suitable garage for warranty work at the manufacturer's expense. So if I find a decent LR indie then I go there to fix it and LR pay them directly. I can do this with servicing, why not warranty work? That way natural selection would kill off the incompetent/uncaring dealerships and everyone would be better off (except the few who were rubbish anyway). 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders

Something tells me that 'joke' is aimed at me, yet I'm not the one that has, time after time, bought duff Land Rover vehicles and keeps paying tens of thousands of pounds for the pleasure! Rolling with laughter

Think that's fairly obvious by your car history. If you want to fling Censored about, be prepared to get covered in it. Thumbs Up 2x TDV6. SE and HSE. Both returned to sender with issues👀

Cars in most households the second largest expenditure after the mortgage. It is true that your contract is with the garage that supplied your car but if your relationship with them breaks down who do you go to. customer services of the manufacturer or importer. The problem is that if they can sell without trying they will not bother. Mercedes were like it once. They thought that they could choose which people they sold cars too, times have changed look at their discounts. There are lemons produced by all manufacturers and for some reason no matter what is replaced they will always be a problem and the only solution is to sell it on to some other poor person.

Have been thinking about getting a RRS - but seems there are plenty of owners with problems with these cars Crying or Very sad

I've had plenty of BM's & Porsche's, one Audi A6 Avant & wife has a 7 year old Shogun & not a major issue with any apart from the usual servicing. Some of my Porsche's were 10-15 years old & daily transport. It doesn't make great reading for a newbie looking to get into RRS ownership. I'am sure there are plenty of happy & loyal LR customers on here & delighted with their cars. Looking at customer reviews on their RRS (e.g What Car) - owners seem to either give their car a 4/5 * rating or a 1 *. So, it seems like russian roulette whether you get a decent car. I suppose buy from a main LR dealer with a decent warranty is what people on here would advise. 2001 Black Porsche 911 turbo

Yes, buy the best you can afford and get a decent warranty with it. If you buy LR Approved then you get their Approved Warranty which is nearly as comprehensive as the new-car warranty. Shop around - there are lots of RRS around so don't fall in to the trap of buying the first one you see.

The forum will always bring in a high percentage of issues because it's the nature of car forums.

The RRS is the best vehicle I've owned but it's also had the most work done to it (mostly under warranty thankfully). Does that make sense? 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders

Im sure the OP is actually from a fair number of years ago.

I think warranty length doesn't equal how good a car is - in fact some of those 7yr Kia warranties are actually rubbish as there are loads of limits...but wouldn't any business minimise their risks?

At the end of the day you can always get a lemon - the more you hunt for problems the more you will likely find...whats key is for every 1 complaint there are probably 10-20 happy owners so actually however bad the problem is, however annoying or unfortunate - it means nothing. Mike

I would seriously doubt that if you had 100 Sport owners in a room, you'd have more than 10 that have had major problems. In my case, I had one of the first cars off the line, certainly early production so bound to have issues. As with everything in life, it's not the problem, it's how it's sorted and many of my early issues were handled by an inept dealership who had just changed from being a Volvo dealership and whilst the service manager was a gem, the rest were a shower and not too long after buying the car, LR removed the franchise. 2x TDV6. I actually agree that it does come down to attention seeking.

There is no factual evidence. Given that there are often several different sides to every story, why should everyone take that guys claims as gospel? For example, guy buys a car with 50,000 miles on the clock, told that it's got the normal wear and year you'd expect but in good condition. Same guy 9 months later needs work doing but expects to pay nothing because he feels that the low cost he paid and the mileage are irrelevant and he should get the same condition vehicle as the person who bought brand new. Sound ridiculous? Yes it does but it happens all too often! Just like people who buy 4 year old cars from auctions then complain to manufacturers about problems with it (BMW forum I was a member of was full of these).

If you have a problem, doing things like this will not get you anywhere. It's the equivalent of kids that scream until they get what they want, do you just give them everything? There is a lot to be said for reasonable and rational behaviour. Yet how many now speak to companies and threaten to trash talk them to friends & family, post on forums, etc to try to get what they want even when they don't necessarily warrant anything? Happens far too often in my experience.
