On way home got Amber warning light and message saying check brake pads
Am I right in thinking that the brake pads want changing as the light goes off
When braking ?? Not sure as never had change on brakes on sport ..

Yes they will need changing, although you would need to check whether it's. The fronts, rears or both need changing.
