Front height sensors - a recent part number change ??

My car been in for 2 new front suspension height sensors. No problem.

garage fitted them, and the one side is operating the suspension height on the other side !

3 days later, LR technical find that the front sensors are no longer produced for both left and right hand, there's now a sensor for each side, BUT the old part number is still in existence ! So when you order what you think are 2 identical sensors, using the part number you've used for years, you'll receive one wrong part, as the new one (drivers side I think) is now a totally new part number.

Can anyone, especially the dealers, clarify that this is a recent/new change, if you actually know about it, or is my garage telling me porkies ?  RR Sport Supercharged Vesuvius Orange 4.2 V8 First edition

Prefer RR Vouge S/C but they don't do Orange !

I remember reading somewhere that the height sensors are handed. They are colour coded white for one side, black for the other (I think). 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders
2008 TDV8 - it was a labour of love and is much missed

No, sorry.

I've just checked the D3 workshop manual (this is dated 2004) and it states:

Quote:
The front and rear sensors are handed and are coloured coded for identification as follows:

l Right hand front and rear -black coloured lever
l Left hand front and rear -white coloured lever.

I've just popped out and the front sensors on my 08MY TDV8 are both black with white arms. I haven't changed them in the 2 years I've owned the vehicle.

It makes sense for them to be handed as they work in opposite directions. It makes me wonder if there is a now a calibration routine so that the EAS can learn what the sensor outputs mean. If this is the case, maybe the garage didn't do it. 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders

That appears to be the case. Maybe someone just used the same arms each side? Or maybe they changed the colour coding way back then? Odd.

I notice on Britparts that they show different LR part numbers for the LH (#LR020473G) and RH (#LR020474G) sensors on 2005-2009 RRS. 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders

very odd.

My problem is that the garage may say this wasn't their fault and try charging me for the hours they stood around scratching their heads trying to work out why the sensors wouldn't work correctly !  RR Sport Supercharged Vesuvius Orange 4.2 V8 First edition

Is this a LR dealership? If so, it might be worth talking to the DP and asking him why his people can't order and fit two simple sensors correctly. Hopefully he won't just side with his parts people. If he does then at least you know not to go back there again and you can tell him so. And point out that others will hear about it too. 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders

If you want an answer from a dealer, ask them directly (PM) rather than expecting them to see this thread Thumbs Up Like this site? Buy some RRSPORT goodies to show your support!

Looking at the parts catalogue, the front sensors WERE the same for left and right, and the old part number RQH500570 supercedes to the right hand sensor LR020474 which appears to come with a fitting kit. The left hand sensor is now LR020473.

I would assume that the LR parts system handles this.

It's not a new change either, it came in during 2009 model year and is in the old 2011 parts catalogue. Like this site? Buy some RRSPORT goodies to show your support!
