I have the climate control on all of the time. That way I get a controlled climate in the vehicle. Never understood the whole "turn it off most of the time" argument.

I do prefer a drier climate though so maybe that's why I like it... 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders

Keeping climate control on all the time works much better in cars with 4 zones or even if the 2 zones are front and rear rather than right and left.

I usually have climate set to the same temp on each side of the vehicle. It works very nicely. I find the split temperatures across the vehicle don't work so well. Bit of a gimmick in my view... 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders

The point is, if the rear passengers want a different temperature than the front, you can't leave climate control on permanently.

Back to the topic, I thought the trip computer paints an only slightly optimistic picture but now wondering if the gap is always as wide as I have found (29.5 vs 34)?

if you drive with the air con off and use BP ultimate or shell nitro+ you will notice a big rise in fuel consumption

the extra 10p a litre is worth it as u get more miles for your money and save on the engine wear and tear 2007 RANGE ROVER SPORT 2.7 TDV6 HSE in silver

Can't help thinking that driving a 2.5t 4x4 and worrying about fuel consumption are mutually exclusive. If fuel use is an issue then buy a different vehicle. Turning off climate control just to save a few quid seems to me to make owning a luxury vehicle rather pointless. But perhaps it's just me... 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders

Im not switching mine off to save fuel im just trying to see what fuel consumption i am getting with diferant fuel types and driving with air con on dons not give u the correct consumption 2007 RANGE ROVER SPORT 2.7 TDV6 HSE in silver

As an academic exercise, fair enough. But if you usually have AC on anyway, you may as well test the various fuels with it on to give a proper real-world consumption figure. 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders

Dont they design newer cars to have the climate control on without impacting MPG almost at all...back in the 90's you would loose 1 or 2 MPG, now you might loose .1 or.2mpg if at all

Dont mention the fuel heater though!! Mike

I believe newer systems somehow clutch the pump in and out as required rather than run it flat out all of the time.

The FBH is a funny one - as it results in faster warm up of the engine I wonder if the fuel hit is less than might be thought. After all, cold engines use more fuel (or is that now a thing of the past too?) 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders

I definitely saw a drop in MPG by 1 or so when i ran it last winter...but i didnt care, i was warmer in the mornings Thumbs Up

Most systems clutch the a/c in to run it, otherwise it would get over cold. I understand newer cars are just more efficient in all of that such that it doesnt make a significant extra engine load. Mike

re trip to oxfrod and back, I have always found the indicated mpg to be pretty much spot on when compared with actually working out the consuption and this trip was no different. Must have the only accurate computer out there. This makes a refreshing change as i had SAAB before this and it was miles out.

I concur with the concensus too, if we are so bothered about the fuel consumption, then why did we buy a RRS. I have had both a 2.25 petrol series IIa landrover and a 3.9 Range Rover vogue SE in the past and they were shocking on consuption but it was all about the experience not the cost of driving them. You just had to budget for a huge fuel bill if you wend on a long haul.

My Brother runs a 4.2 supercharged RRS and gets low teens fuel consumption but as he only does a couple of thousand miles a year it doesnt matter. but what an experience when it not sat in the garage.

Like most RRS owners I too realised before buying that large fuel bills will be inevitable (but worth it). This is probably the first or second time I have bothered to calculate consumption based on fill ups/mileage. I do keep an eye on the computer mpg though. Not because I "worry" about how much fuel is being spent but so that I can spot any significant anomaly as it could be a sign of a mechanical problem which I would want to pre-emptively address. Just surprised how inaccurate the computer can be.
