Has it ever had a transmission oil change? Might be worth trying that followed by clearing the gearbox "adaptives". 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders

It's certainly well overdue for a transmission filter and oil change. Worth a try considering the huge cost of a new autobox.

There are a couple of places advertising "mega flush" but in order to do that they need to cut pipes (the LR install of the gearbox doesn't have a built-in flush system). The normal way is to drain the oil, change the sump (which contains the filter), run the box and then change the oil again I believe. I had this done by an indie for £190 all in. http://www.iawa4x4.co.uk/ You might need to go to a dealer to get the adaptives cleared although some indies can probably do it too. I did mine recently using my IIDTool. It certainly sounds like having the fluid changed is a good first step for your gearbox based on its age/mileage. 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders 2008 TDV8 - it was a labour of love and is much missed |

I had mine done at c.60k miles as a general maintenance / precaution item. I'm thinking of getting it done every couple of years in the future.

Go for it. That is an amazing price considering the plastic sump is £81 retail and the 12 litres of auto fluid for a double flush at the average retail price for ZF Lifeguard would be £240. I've had transmission specialists tell me that if an auto gearbox is on the way out then the only thing that is keeping it working is all the metal particles in the fluid providing the necessary friction and so if the fluid is renewed the gearbox 'dies'. I'm tempted to think this is just one of those 'urban myths' and that what is really happening is that when a gearbox is already worn out changing the fluid doesn't help and so it just happens to fail completely shortly afterwards. But willing to hear from someone who knows better 2008 MY Java Black TDV8 HSE |

According to LR tech today he said he has seen this work... change fluid etc.... as the oil is that good it actually cleans the clutch etc |

Yes definitely. Lots of threads to show that a fluid change can make all the difference. Had mine done and it definitely improved things. Still have a minor issue but that's another story.... 2008 MY Java Black TDV8 HSE |

I had mine changed and it didn't seem to do much. When I cleared the adaptives in the gearbox there was a noticeable improvement in gearbox performance. 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders
