2005 HSE Smokey on acceleration

Hi

I have a 2005 (55 plate) 2.7 HSE , Covered only 67000 mls. The vehicle has only been serviced at a main dealer.

I have noticed that when accelerating quite a lot of black smoke is coming from the exhaust tail pipes. This also happens when in Cruise Control and the kick down happens.

All seems fine whilst driving at a steady speed, no sign of black smoke. Have tried the injector cleaner products but not much difference.

Any thoughts on what the problem could be or is this expected on a RR Sport of this age and mileage.

Cheers

Keith

Might be worth checking your MAP sensor for starters. Also your intercooler pipework.
See this thread here on how to. Thumbs Up

Intercooler hose delaminating?

I had something similar on my D3 when I first got it.

Turned out to be a goosed turbo and intercooler.

It was under warranty back then so got both new.

I wont tell you the bill Keith as im sure you will have heart failure. Big Cry

Hope its just the pipe chap.

Don't scare him Laughing

I had similar symptoms recently, turned out to just be a split intercooler hose which was only £35. Current: 06 RR Sport HSE TDV6, Bonatti grey, black leather. Defender 90 pick up. Vito 110cdi

Hi Again

Thanks for the replies.

Maybe a slight loss of power over time?

Have just cleaned the Map Sensor. Really clogged up with damp soot deposits. Also cleaned small hole with Brake cleaner, which was fully blocked. Yet to try , will let you know if any improvement.

Is anyone able to tell which is the intercooler pipe so that i can check clips and any splitting. I assume it will need to be removed to check for Delamination??

Thanks again

Cheers

Hi
MPG improved by 3/4 MPG on dash computer. Less smoke on acceleration , but when flooring throttle or kick down takes place in cruise mode stiil a noticeable hazy cloud of smoke momentarily.

Is this the norm?

Most diesels will give a slight haze of black smoke under harsh acceleration so unless its majorly thick I think you should be all right. RRS TDV8 HST
