It shouldn't lock the wheels - it's designed to prevent the wheels locking. It is noisy in operation (later versions are much quieter/smoother by the way) as it uses the ABS system to pulse the brakes in order to the reduce/control the vehicle's speed. It's a very good system and the first time you send your RRS over a steep slope, both feet off the pedals, and it just walks down under control is amazing. I played with it on an icy hill this winter. It drove down nicely under total control. I then drove down it again without HDC just using the brakes. The vehicle slid all over the place. A very impressive display - I could barely stand up on the ice!

As has been said before, these vehicles are hugely capable and it's a real shame that people never make use of even some of the ability they have paid for.

I am unsure if mine is working well, then, as it was blocking the wheels totally. like when you brake real strong and the abs is forcing a lot i fell breaking the whole car, then after for the first time i heard the transmission tapping... tdv6s 2.7 2007

But are you talking with HDC and muds and ruts settings or HDC alone??
Cause myself in Muds and ruts setting and hdc on, it locks all 4 wheels and i can't move anymore. tdv6s 2.7 2007

HDC can be used alone or in conjunction with the TR programs. It shouldn't cause the vehicle to stop completely but if you are travelling at reasonable speed, say 20mph, and then activate it (by taking your foot off the throttle when HDC is on) it will brake quite firmly. Using the throttle or brake pedals will override HDC.

If it's stopping you completely and then preventing you from driving off then that would suggest a fault in the system.

Have a read through this: http://landrover.workshop-manuals.com/lr3/index.php?id=590 it goes on to the next page or two and gives some detail on HDC operation. 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders
2008 TDV8 - it was a labour of love and is much missed

I think the best bet is to go on an off road training day ideally at a land rover centre in Spain, to learn how to use the system, it will be difficult to explain over the forum.

I've used train response a lot as I'm sure a few on here have and it's difficult to explain and give you the understanding...especially if your not conversant with the basics.

Hdc shouldn't lock your wheels, it can't actually - it uses the brakes.

You can turn hdc on in any vehicle mode - try that maybe? Mike

The axle display shows the way your wheels are turned - if you move steering from side to side it should change accordingly Thumbs Up

I suspect the braking was hill descent kicking in but maybe someone else can suggest an alternative explanation Confused

You can view handbooks here http://topix.landrover.jlrext.com/topix/i18n/index Bow down

When do you have this axle yourself, in muds and ruts with HDC or and with the mountain setting ( at the bottom of the hiway button)? can you tell me? tdv6s 2.7 2007

Thanks a lot Muddywheels, I have it polished today. I was happy it was not a major problem, the HDC does it in all TR mode...

MSE, Thanks

I am looking for some OEM Floor mats my interior is beige, do you think I could use some black floor mats or a different color than my interior, is it something we see with other models, bicolor or not at all? tdv6s 2.7 2007
