Electronic Park Brake Problem

Morning All,

I've just updated the software of the ECUs using the IID Tool. After some problems everything worked as it should, so 3 flash indicator, clock in instrument cluster and FBH light turning on when lights are on...

However, after a couple of days I got the orange warning light for the EPB came on. I used the IID Tool to do a fault check and nothing... no fault code for the EPB. Cleared all faults and the light went off. Happy days.. however, after 30 minutes or so of driving the light came back on Confused

I checked if the EPB works and it seems to work fine. I engaged it and then put the Sport in drive and the EPB held, done the same in reverse and all OK. Confused

So does anybody have an idea what could be causing the fault? I have also noted the battery is only at 11.9-12.3V even after a longer drive.

Any pointers would be great Smile

Thanks in advance

Sounds like your battery or Alternator is dying as you should have 12.5 v to 14.5 volts turn all your lights on and leave for 10 mins then start the car and see what voltage it pumps out then.

Flack Thumbs Up

Have noticed the IID tool seems to always show a lower voltage compared with the direct reading of a multimeter across the battery terminals. Are you using the beta software version (V2.1Cool on IID tool? If not perhaps ask to be a beta tester as it has more functionality on the EPB. 2008 MY Java Black TDV8 HSE

Cheers Flack will give that a try when I get the car back from the garage and see what happens. Garage also thinks it's a possible battery/ alternator problem.

Paddi, yes I'm using the beta software, very Cool used it to reflash the 3 ECUs it offers Very Happy I emailed Patrick of GAP and he says the IID Tool only "sees" permanent faults not intermittent faults.

I've dropped the car at the garage as I have a more concerning fault, namely the engine cuts out randomly at idle speeds when on full left lock and applying the brake. Has happened 3 times now. Garage thinks it's related to carbon build up on throttle body which is also causing the engine to "hunt" on idle with the AC on....

Hopefully get an answer back today on both matters...

Cheers

I'm a IID Tool newbie so still learning but yes - very impressed so far and the IID is well on the way to paying for itself already. Maybe a shot in the dark but re. your engine problem I once had similar issues with V8 petrol Jeep and it was the throttle position sensor. Easy to change and while you are there might as well clean the throttle body. 2008 MY Java Black TDV8 HSE

Paddi, it certainly comes in useful. Even though I trust the garage IU use it's always good to know a little more of whats going wrong on the car as it so often does.. Rolling with laughter

Cheers for the tip regards the throttle position sensor. The garage said they'd call this morning to confirm the situation, but, expected it to be good news. Fingers crossed.

Cheers
