Cost of adding Towing Electrics

Just been quoted £444 to add towing electrics to a MY13 Shocked

I think MY10 was plug and play but apparently MY13 needs computer updating, etc Confused

Anybody with experience or prices who can advise Bow down

I already have the towbar so seems a bit pricey Rolling Eyes Wanted a Series 2 LR since childhood but previously owned MY16 Disco Sport HSE TD4 Auto, MY13 RR Sport Black Edition TDV6 Auto, MY10 RR Sport HSE TDV6 Auto, 2007 Freelander 1 Freestyle TD4 Soft Top, 2009 Freelander 2 GS TD4 Auto, 2007 Freelander 2 GS TD4, 2004 Disco 2 Metropolis Auto, 2002 Disco 2 GS, 2000 Freelander 1 SE TD4 SW

Looking at Topix accessory instructions it does appear that MY10 is plug and play but MY13 requires software update Sad

Reluctant to DIY this considering how temperamental these vehicles are now Embarassed Wanted a Series 2 LR since childhood but previously owned MY16 Disco Sport HSE TD4 Auto, MY13 RR Sport Black Edition TDV6 Auto, MY10 RR Sport HSE TDV6 Auto, 2007 Freelander 1 Freestyle TD4 Soft Top, 2009 Freelander 2 GS TD4 Auto, 2007 Freelander 2 GS TD4, 2004 Disco 2 Metropolis Auto, 2002 Disco 2 GS, 2000 Freelander 1 SE TD4 SW

My10 required just as much computer program activation as the my13

The my13 is a better fitting system...but still requires bumper removal, now way of doing in from 11 on without removing the bumper, despite some contrary advice.

You need the computer programming...but it's not essential Mike

My 11 on cant...people (who tend to have the 10) say you can, but you can't.

On the 13 considering the plugs are on the top at the front edge of the bumper cross rail, you need to remove the bumper.

Not the spare though. Mike

Cheers Drdill Bow down

We will have had it 3 years in August and get away any chance we can Thumbs Up

Each winter we start thinking maybe we should sell and stay in hotels but come spring when we get back on a CL/CS the idea disappears until next winter Laughing

They look more "right" with a big horse trailer on them. Thumbs Up Big caravan on a 4x4 just looks a bit too, ooh, "traveller" for me... Whistle Rolling with laughter

Sorry, couldn't resist. To be honest at least the RRS makes towing an easy task and less likely to hold up the rest of the world as so many lesser vehicles are wont to do. 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders
2008 TDV8 - it was a labour of love and is much missed

Just fitted the plug and play original LR part to my MY10.
I did have to remove the rear bumper cover (took 10 mins and was not difficult) and both rear lights. I couldn't see any other way to access the inside part of the bumper to secure the loom as per the instructions. Just be careful when removing the nearside rear boot trim as its quite large and bends easy. I did not have to remove the spare.

It all worked first time but a download was done by LPR when it was in for a 3 year service this week. Apparently its needed becuase of the PDC when the towbar is in use.

Overall, the job wasn't too fiddly and on a scale of 1-10, ten being difficult, I would rate it as a 4. Thumbs Up
