Battery Warning Light

Hi Chaps I know there has been a few posts on this already. My Battery warning light came on intermittently yesterday ,I reckon I can hear a new whine from the engine bay and the Alternator housing was very hot to touch.
Are there any other checks I can carry out ,and if the Alternator does need changed it is on a TDV6 do I need to remove radiator or is this only on the TDV8s.
Cheers Confused

Look in Bobby's gallery - there are lots of technical papers there and I think one of them relates to generators Thumbs Up 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders
2008 TDV8 - it was a labour of love and is much missed

Re Battery Warning Light

Thanks I will have a look in that section. I know this is probably another stupid question but thought I would ask anyway. When the Battery is Disconnected does this clear any Re-mapping that has been done on the vehicle. Confused

remapping wont be touched when disconnecting battery. If TDv6, then radiator doesnt need to be removed for the alternator change, Thumbs Up Bodsys Brake Bible

TDV6 alternator can be done in around half an hour, if the car does not have Dynamic Response/ARC.

Re Battery Warning Light

Thanks again lads. My Sport is the TDV6 and has Dynamic Stability Control is this the same thing if so what is different about the changing of the alternator. Is it worth looking at a reconditioned unit or better to go for new unit, any help is very much appreciated. Confused

The DSC uses the ABS/TC systems, Dynamic Response/ARC has the fancy anti roll bars, and an oil reservoir next to the air filter Thumbs Up
And Brembo front calipers too Thumbs Up

The ARC pump sits right in the way of the alternator, making access a bit tight, but still do-able.

IMHO, I would pay the extra and go for a genuine LR part. Have seen too many issues with using cheaper aftermarket alternators, for a marginal saving...

Re Battery Warning Light

Thanks very much again Mikey. Removing the Alternater today and having it checked by a local Auto Electricians. And they have said the same Mate to go for a Genuine Denso Alternater which they are going to price me on if required. Neutral

IIRC, a genuine alternator is around £250 + VAT. Try not to get screwed over Thumbs Up Whistle
