Bloody Pot Holes Again !!!!!!!!

Hi All,

Here's the problem, driving daily around my part of the world is like taking the car on a mountaineering expedition, pothole city. You need a Range Rover to be able to climb out of some of them !

Last week realised that the car was running strange and not taking the pounding from the road in the usual way, an inspection of tyre pressures all round found that one of them was really low. I took a trip up to Kwik fit to have the wheel inspected, thought it was a slow puncture, but when the tyre was taken off it turned out to be a badly dented rim which in turn was stopping the tyre wall from sealing.
So now have the issue, how do you claim for the damage of the council when you cannot specify which particular crater it was that caused the damage ?

Secondly, the cost of replacing the alloy is eye watering, the option to repair i do not think is available as it is seen as now having a weak spot.

Has any members on here had the same issue ? if so how resolved. I really want to take it to the highways agency and make them cough up for the sheer appalling state of the roads in our area, but as stated it's not related to a single pot hole.

In a nutshell i'm looking for a replacement 20 inch supercharged alloy ( no tyre needed as the current one's are almost new)

Any help / advice from the forum members would be gratefully received.....

Smile 2005 Rang Rover Supercharged
Loving every minute !

I wrote to the council regarding the 1st of my 3 pothole saga's.

I attached pictures of the pothole, it was so big it nearly had bats roosting in it.

Anyway, after 5 weeks (and after the pothole suddenly got repaired) I had a snotty letter from the council's solicitor saying get stuffed. RRS gone

Pick a convenient pothole as the one that caused the damage and then use the Legal Protection cover on your insurance to persue the claim.

Guys,

The council (or more likely, their insurer) will almost always reject your claim 1st time round.
The reason they do this is that 90% of people just accept it and go away Rolling Eyes
Don't accept it, write back telling them you are not accepting it and give them seven days
to respond otherwise you will put it in the hands of your insurer (if you have legal protection
as part of your policy) or your lawyer. Worked for me 2 letters and I had my money Thumbs Up

One tip though, If you photograph the pot hole always try and put something in it to show scale
on the picture. Obviously a tape measure or ruler is best but if you haven't got that then use something
that is a set size that can be compared, like a mobile phone or your cars user manual or the tyre iron from
the boot. Try to show both Depth & Width of the pot hole against whatever you use. It all helps make it more
difficult for them to wriggle out of the claim. Thumbs Up 2013 Discovery HSE Luxury - 3.0 SDV6 - Santorini Black

Does that work ? Never thought of that.

One question I cannot get a straight answer to : Why in this country do we put drain/manhole covers in the road? If they were put on the path then (a) they would not get damaged so often (b) they would not cause damage to cars as often (c) the road surface around them would not break apart as quickly (d) road works would be limited to the pavement and not impact on the road as is the current stupid way of doing things.

This bloody country is pants ! 2005 Rang Rover Supercharged

Ive claimed against Leeds Council after a pothole mullered my wife's MINI tyre before Xmas. After much ranting on my part the claim has been sent to Zurich the Council's insurers, which are just as expert at ignoring emails.

A good pal is a lawyer who loves this sort of thing and is about to have a go at them if I don't get any response this week. I'll keep you posted. FF 4.4 V8 Soooo looking forward to this bad boy

Yes it works.
My son got two new wheels and tyres for his BMW after I suggested he used the Legal Protection.
Took 6 months but he got cost of them.

^^^^ Yep, Totally agree, It works!

In the scenario I described above it was the mere threat of passing it to my lawyer that made them pay up.
I never actually got to the point of actually calling him! Mr. Green 2013 Discovery HSE Luxury - 3.0 SDV6 - Santorini Black

The problem is that just patching a hole by filling it with tarmac is only ever a short term fix. It'll just fail again as water and frost get in to it and from mechanical damage from tyres.

Whole stretches of road need to be relaid, not just resurfaced but relaid. That is very time consuming and thuis expensive. The various highways authorities simply don't have the money to do the work. Govt needs to put much more money in to it... 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders
2008 TDV8 - it was a labour of love and is much missed
