Hi everyone, first post for me.

I bought an 08 TDV8 in november without side steps when i thought i didn't like them but have since changed my mind.
Personal finances are going to be very tight for the next year or so and i can't justify the expense of the OEM items.
My question is what are peoples experiences/opinions of fitting non genuine steps ?

I was in the same situation - opted for the cheaper lookalikes - never had a problem - fitted within a couple of hours .If you can afford a little extra I would opt for the versions that come with the PRE CUT sill replacements a little less hassle than cutting your own.  16MY Estoril Blue SVR.............

When you have fitted them make sure you give the aluminium trim a few coats of a good wax, this will stop them from tarnishing.

I got mine from eBay and try are spot on. If you can get a set with pre cut sills as it will save a bit of faffing and effort. They are pretty straight forward to fit too RRS TDV8 HST

When I purchased my sport it came with OEM steps and they were a bit scruffy so I ordered the eBay replicas to replace them, the eBay ones were exactly the same and I didn't even have to change the brackets as they were identical to the OEM ones so the new steps just slid on, took about half an hour and you would never tell they weren't the original ones

I know that money is always a sensitive subject (so is everything on here it seems) but am I alone in seeing something strange in being able to afford to buy a RANGE ROVER, then spoiling the originality by buying cheap (many Chinese made) side steps? If the car itself represents so much disposable income that to buy some side steps means cheap facsimile parts, isn't it better to get a cheaper car? A similar thought went through my mind BKHK. These things aren't cheap to run at the best of times so trying to do it "on the cheap" seems a little silly. But some people manage it and good luck to them.

The funniest bit in the thread is the bit about waxing them to keep them shiny. Mine are a bit scratched and dented from being used as makeshift rock sliders - should I wax them too?

I'm still trying to work out what a "spurious side step" is too...  2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders

The wax isn't to keep them shiney, infact the aluminium trim isn't shiney at all The wax helps protect the aluminium trim from getting tarnished as said in my previous post. Unprotected aluminium will tarnished and corrode. Its also worth protecting the aluminium rivites that hold the trims on, these have been known to corrode and cause the trim to fall off.
