As far as handling between the D3 and the RRS goes there is no comparison, ok, i have dynamic pack but i used to drive the D3 hard and sometimes scared myself to death when i thought i wasnt going to make a corner, especially in the wet. The RRS is surefooted and gives you loads of confidence in the bends.

I've not driven a RRS with the dynamic pack and I'm sure that is brilliant. However, I've found there is very little difference in the handling between my SE RRS and the HSE D3, even when going mad in it. However, the same cannot be said for an older SE D3 I drove. In that I could then see a big difference in the handling when pushing hard around corners and the RRS was far superior. I don't know if the new D3s have some suspension tweeks, but something has definitely improved on the D3s. I can't see that 1" larger wheels make such a noticeable difference on it's own.
I can only comment on what I've found and my new D3 handles surprisingly good and much better than I was expecting and I would say is virtually equal to my SE RRS.

And as far as noise goes, obviously if your running 275 x 20 tyres you can expect some road noise but dont talk to me about wind noise, the D3 was as aerodynamic as a house brick, at least the RRS has some dynamics which does lessen wind noise.

While the D3 has the styling of a house brick, there is definitely less wind noise around the top of the windscreen and pillars. I'm not the first to notice this either....I read the same in a magazine review some time ago.

Dont get me wrong, i loved the D3 but it isnt as good as the RRS. Why do people keep ranting on about tail gates and boot space, if you need any more bootspace than an RRS you probably should have got yourself a van.

I agree. If you want a 5 seater with average boot space, get a RRS and if you want something larger, get a D3. But from what I've found the D3 does everything else just as well and isn't the step down as I was expecting. I find the general ride quality much better in the D3 due to a softer setup and therefore with this and the added practicality, I've found the D3 a more satisfying vehicle.
However, I do still lust after the RRS looks. And I think that is the key difference between the two. Under the skin the two cars are so similar in many ways and the Sport has many small driver orientated tweaks which, coupled with the sleeker styling make it overall a car that is admired and lusted after as being class act. Whereas the D3 has an image of practicality and ruggedness, but as they start from only £26K, they are not put in the prestige class as a Range Rover is. But a SE or HSE spec D3 is a match to any prestige £40-£50K 4x4. Matt

OK. If you want. I know I don't belong here any more.

All I can say, is......don't bash the D3 owners anymore.....your RRS are based on them!

I am continually surprised by the bad feeling felt and vented by RRS owners towards the D3.

The ribbing from D3 owners is clearly only in jest, however there is clearly some deeper hatred, which is shameful to be honest Crying or Very sad Like this site? Buy some RRSPORT goodies to show your support!

Laughing Nice one Andy!

I don't hate D3's. After all, they continually win awards despite newer, fresher competitors being launched on a fairly regular basis.

I'm just sick of the owners constantly trying to sell me 'Lucky Heather' and tea towels!
