How much is a service book worth?

Let's say (hypothetically) that you bought an RRS, and when you turned up to collect it the dealer told you that the service book and MOT certificate was at the boss' house but he's not in today so they will deliver it to you tomorrow. Then let's say it turns out the documents are not at the boss' house but still with the previous owner; who after several weeks still can't find them. How much less is your RRS now worth without a service history and so how much should you claim from the dealer at a County Court Hearing? 2008 MY Java Black TDV8 HSE

I would hypothetically say take the car back as I see it being worthless without full history Whistle

Agree with above - ask yourself would you have considered buying the Sport if you knew it did not have service history...

Check out the OFT web site it will give you a lot of info. Basically they (the dealer) has broken the contract as the 'deal' is not complete so in effect it cancels the original order/contract as described you have to accept the new terms in order to go ahead but it gives you the chance to back out.

If you want the car then they can find out the records from Land Rover and if know who the dealer(s) is/are who serviced the car they can provide the records and a list of warranty/upgrade work done on your car. You may have to track down each dealer.

If the are as shifty as they sound it may be best to walk away.

I would have thought the book is irrelevant as long as it does have a full service history LR could supply a new one surely? MY2011 HSE Santorini/Ivory/Piano Black/Privacy Glass/TV .Sadly gone.

You've been lied to. It's a dishonest sale. Reject the vehicle. Whistle

You may be surprised how a) quickly documents turn up or b) you get an improved offer which only you can weigh up.

Just my opinion. I'd find out what I could from another dealer and then reject it at the original place and see what happens. You have nothing to lose.

Richard

Lesson - Never trust anyone or any business - always follow up meetings/phone calls with an email so you always have a 'paper trail'!

Very well said, word is worthless if not in writting Thumbs Up
I would question honesty of this dealer so very difficult to say what to expect if you try to reject the vehicle...

I wouldn't ask for a difference figure, I'd just ask for my money back. I reckon the court would be more than happy to rule in your favour in that regard. 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders
2008 TDV8 - it was a labour of love and is much missed
