Is this stupid or what

Needing to put a new battery on the TDV8 Sport which is under warranty. Land Rover's standard fit is 90Ah. I wanted to fit a 110Ah to give a bit of reserve for cold starts etc. e.g. something like the Bosch S5 a 110Ah unit with a 5 year guarantee.

I asked Land Rover Customer Services if the Bosch battery was OK or for a list of approved battery makers that would not upset warranty. After chasing eventually this was the reply...

"Thank you for your email. Please accept my apologies for the delay in this response I can assure you that no discourtesy was intended.

I have forwarded your question to our internal technical team and can advise the following:

There are no recommended battery suppliers for Land Rover products, other than those supplied by the dealer network. If a genuine Land Rover battery of the correct specification is not fitted to the vehicle, then it may affect the manufacturers warranty on the vehicle if there is a subsequent failure.

I hope the above has answered your question sufficiently and please do not hesitate to contact me should you require further assistance in this matter.

Yours sincerely"

The comment "those supplied by the dealer netwrok" means JLR batteries.
Would you believe it !!! especially as we think Bosch/Varta are OE.

So if you were ever in any doubt that JLR would look for any reason to jump ship on a warranty claim now you know.

Yep it is and the dealer will fit a 'standard' 90Ah for free.

I wanted to go for the higher 110Ah battery and would pay the difference in cost.

JLRs stance just seems daft and possible against the consumer regs.

To be honest, i don't really see your point, the battery fitted to your motor is more than capable for your motor, so i can see why L/R are not prepared to fit anything other than standard equipment,

Yes Ady its a simple matter of personal opinion - just that after many RRs my experience is that, on odd occassions, it doesn't take long for the battery voltage to drop if you have any systems, lights etc running without the engine on. So for the £50 quid difference I just thought I'd do what I have done on previous RRS and get a bit of reserve power.

What's interesting is that if you go to the Bosch or other maker's sites their recommendation are 100Ah and 110Ah !!

How on earth a good quality battery could be the cause of problems and hence a warranty issue is also a bit beyond me. Corporate Policy(s) are just wonderful.
