Hi.. I'm Charlie a bit of a car nut !!

Currently drive a Toyoya Rav4 T180 kitted with all the toys and a Jaguar XFS 3.0 Diesel that has a Spires Remap..

Time to change the Rav and am on the hunt for a 3.6 Diesel RRS as looking at the figures including the all important MPG ( I do around 25K miles a year) the 3.6 seems the way forward...

My experience with the RRS is very limited so I hope You Guys can help with some questions ?

What is the ride comfort like in the real world on the appalling roads We have in the UK ? I'm not looking for monster wheels !
What is the real world MPG like on the 3.6 diesel. Most of My miles are on the Motorway usually at around 75 to 80 on cruise..

And what are the things to look out for on the RRS...

I average about 22mpg in my TDV8, i would estimate that probably about 60% of that is short runs and the rest motorway.

Think you will be looking at about 18 ish around town and more like 24-25 on the motorway, maybe a bit more depending how you drive it.
As you say the majority of uk roads are dreadfull, mine is on 20" rims (standard) and the ride is good, how 22" rims affect it i wouldn't know, but it doesn't really matter what you drive if the roads are crap. I am sure you will enjoy it though, as for things to look out for I'm probably not the best person to ask as I have only had mine a couple of months. I can tell you to be careful not to kerb the wheels as its easy to do. There are a lot of reports of knocking suspension (partly due to the roads), not had any issues with mine although the suspension bushes were replaced on purchase. Sorry i can't be more help but as i say only early days for me too.

Rigsby I would only buy a car with full history and a warranty unless of course I buy private and then the warranty would remainder of factory or none !!
My XF has 20 inch wheels and the ride is just fine .. I previously had an A4 Sline on 18s and the ride was shocking !
So I suppose its down to how well sprung and damped the suspension system is as well as the tyre profile ....

What I am trying to avoid doing is taking endless test drives at Dealers to establish if the ride quality is what I am after ??

What I hope for or am looking for is a very comfortable ride without bumps and poor road surfaces spoiling the drive.... My Wife suffers horribly with a severe back injury so We have to focus fairly closely on this element of the car We are about to hunt for....

Perhaps I should be looking at a Full fat range rover ? I hope not as they do not have the kerb appeal or the good looks of the RRS ......

25 mpg Is fine and is the figures given on Auto trader but sometimes 25 on AT can end up being 18 to 20 in what I call the real world....

Most of My mileage is up and down from Scotland to Worcestershire . A trip I do at least once a month. This is a sedate drive as I am in no hurry ! Any spirited trips I do in the XFS which has a spires Remap which takes the power to 315BHP and 690 NM of torque.

Whilst a 2,7 RRS would be sufficient I admit to loving big powerful tourquey engines and this dictates the 3.6 as being the weapon of choice..

After having a Discovery 3 with a wonderful ride, I then changed to an Audi A6 Avant S line Le Mans estate. The ride was awful and it crashed over every pot hole. Great for fast motorway driving, but that was it. I then bought a RRS TDV8 WITH 20" wheels and 40 profile tyres. Epic car with huge torque and it averages 25mpg. The diesel V8 is imo just superb, and I intend to next year p/ex it with one of the last 2010 year V8s, if I can get one in the right spec.
But, but...and I have harped on about this before.. again imo the 40 profile tyres are a bit too low profle, the the air suspension magic carpet ride, like the Discos is not so evident. So, I changed to 45 profile and that really made a huge improvement, and also as a bonus reduces the kerbing/grazing alloy issues. I regularly drive from the Wirral to Devon with a few ancients and they love the car...but hated the Audi on non motorway roads with potholes!

I had a few suspension issues, due to several anti Roll bar failures, or ARC bars, the dealer sorted this and also installed a mass damper kit, and all is A1. So, ensure you take the RRS out on a test drive on several miles of poorly surfaced pot holed roads to check for any suspension issues/worn bushes.

But the TDV8 , out of the 40 cars I have had in as many years, is just as good is it gets...

Out of interest does changing the tyre specification effect your LR warranty in the event of a suspension claim and did you notify your insurers about the tyre 'modification'

My real world fuel economy for me is similar to Rigsby's maybe a couple more. Economy does nosedive on the motorways if you push the speed up as it is not aerodynamic! A psychological winner is it has a huge tank which means you curse as you fill up and then think it is reasonable on fuel as the gauge goes down slowly and you don't fill up often.

I find the ride comfort to be good but I would not like it to be any firmer, i think you may find it harder than your XF-S. mine is sitting on the 20' rims. By the way really like the XF-S, amazing mix of quality, performance, size and economy. I find the RRS build quality to be even better than the Jag, although the "fit" part of "fit and finish" ain't so good but does fit with the character of he brand.

Compared to my XK-R it is similar ride comfort, uses about 10% more fuel on the motorways and about 10% less in jams and around town.

Overal it is a brilliant car and having been a bit unconvinced at first I am now fully convinced - it puts a smile on my face everytime i get in.

OK the car is a few years old but fits nicely into the budget. Bear in mind I do not take finance on My vehicles and choose to buy outright so budget seems more realistic when sighing on the dotted ....

I like the silver colour. Yes I love black cars but being heavily into detailing black is not practical unless I wash the cars twice a week !!
Car seems to have a comprehensive spec and from My somewhat limited research not to heavily priced ?
Also the mileage is fine as in two years time when its time to change again it wont have spaceship miles on the odo....
I would be looking for a very comprehensive warranty rather than a discount on the screen price if of course the car is as good as it looks !!
Opinions would be appreciated.

Perfect colour - but I would say that. It really does well at hiding the day to day grime.

One thing I did notice is that (apart from it being raised for the picture, why do that?) is that on the boot the lowest part, the part with the Range Rover lettering on it, is a different colour to the rest of the car and on mine it is the same as the rest of the car, don't know if it is just a different year thing. Graham

You mention test driving, when paying this much ask the dealer to loan you a demo for the weekend, plenty of time to get an opinion.

for more comfort, I would choose 19 " wheels and the 255/50 tyres the next time. At the moment I driving the 3L SDV6 with the 20" and the 275/40 tyres.
