Detachable Tow Bar Headache

Hello - wondering if anyone can help here.

I have a detachable tow bar that used to fit and work nicely with my 07Supercharger.
I tried to fit to my 11 Supercharger and the bar seems to lock in but the green handle does not fully snap back in place and it is then not possible to rotate the key to extract it.

As far as I know there has been no design change - has anyone come across a solution for this please ?

Confused

Have you tried the 'fix all' solution of spraying a little WD40 on it to loosen anything that maybe stuck ? ON THE WAY: BMW F21 M140i

Thanks Beancounter

Yes tried WD 40, jiggling and liberal application of foul language so far - all to to no avail !

Suggest a trip to the dealer and as you are still under warranty a bit of goodwill should be in order even though tow bar did not come with vehicle Very Happy Wanted a Series 2 LR since childhood but previously owned MY16 Disco Sport HSE TD4 Auto, MY13 RR Sport Black Edition TDV6 Auto, MY10 RR Sport HSE TDV6 Auto, 2007 Freelander 1 Freestyle TD4 Soft Top, 2009 Freelander 2 GS TD4 Auto, 2007 Freelander 2 GS TD4, 2004 Disco 2 Metropolis Auto, 2002 Disco 2 GS, 2000 Freelander 1 SE TD4 SW

Is the tow bar in the car, or are you trying to do this off the car Question
I only ask, as there is a small steel release pin at the back of the tow bar that allows the mechanism to work once you insert it into the car. Idea ON THE WAY: BMW F21 M140i

Thanks Guys -

yes am trying to do it in the slot. Basically it locks into poistion and takes my weight - But the green knoob does not come all the way back to allow the key to be removed and a small piece or red/orange can be seen to show it has not correctly loacked in.

I can get the thing to work out of the slot so it is as if something is not locating correctly to position it.

Vexing..

Have you checked there's nothing stuck up inside the car part? Did it have the red 'cover' in it ?
Might be just as easy to pop and see the dealer to be honest as it seems you've exhausted most routes:

The lock had seized on mine. The only way I could get it off was to strip down/disassemble the lock, actually worryingly easy! I was then able to get it off the car. I'm not about to publish how I did it on an open forum, but if you pm me I'll forward a procedure if you're interested.

Had similar between old and new sport. Spray or grease socket to aid removal. Insert tow bar and whack northwards and it shold lock into place. I put it down to a dry socket ... Smile

Just a long shot and a bit of a thread highjack;
Does anyone from Kiwiland have the optional 'convertable' tow hitch that they dont or wont be using?
Happy to do a trade with cash for the usless to me 50mm one.
Cheers
Graham
