Definitely cant...maybe for chavs, granted Land Rover created a number of things first The were definitely the first to put ABS on a 4 wheel drive (range rover classic) Terrain response was a first Something about air suspension Thats before we get into the rover group, which despite the stick they may get there were a number of firsts Land Rover invented the market with the Range Rover as well Mike 2014 Facelift Discovery |

that's probably true. Volvo probably invented the seat belt to but it means little as a statement of fact. BMW make some absolutely superb kit and have for many years. ============

No - genuinely mean it. Take the mini for example...current form...great design, very successful - BMW i hear you say, shows they make good cars i hear - but actually do you know that Rover designed it in the current style, that actually Rover had it ready to launch as it is now. BMW took it at the purchase and sale of rover was predicated around that. It was similar to the development of the x5. My point, BMW arent great and have taken a lot - there are far better, but often these things are looked at through rose coloured glasses. Ill make a final point, people would slag LR or Rover (when BMW owned them) for reliability issues etc - well i knew a number of people with m3's most had had new engines, gearboxes etc - but BMW ran and treated them well enough so they wouldnt loose the PR battle. So i dont hold BMW up as anything great - its not Al Murray - I havent made any UK/Germany link and wouldnt...i happen to like Mercedes cars for example, that isnt my point, my point is BMW isnt the best thing since sliced bread and i really get frustrated by naive people thinking they are just because the market well Mike 2014 Facelift Discovery |

the Al Murray comparison relates to making such a WIDE sweeping statement, with conviction. It equivalent to saying "Sony stuff is rubbish" or "Tesco only sell crap". To be true Al Murray you'd have to say something even stupider like "French cars are crap" or "Italian cars are unreliable" "Vauxhalls rust" And most Rovers both of the BMW era and not were fairly unreliable vs cars of the respective time - JD PS shows that. The 75 was a superb exception. ============ 2010 TDV8 HSE - ooo laa laaaaaaaaa 2007 TDV8 HSE - superb car and very reliable ============ 2012 - dearly departed, sadly missed.. to return in late 2013 with a new TDV8! |

.....don't get me started on BMW "reliability" or "quality".........perception and ultimately deception in some cases has been cleverly engineered by marketing houses for the Bavarian ones over the years and people have bought it.

I totally agree with you on this statement, saying that BMW don't make anythin decent is just rubbish. If you compare the equivalent cars across different brands then BMW will come out on top on a few lists eg m3, then again the will also come out crap against certain things, eg 4x4 market the X5 is pants compared with pretty much any LR at offroading. But to say they don't make anythin good is just crazy talk When changing from my M3 to my Cerbera I noticed what proper quality and reliability is lol |

I would argue - for a number of reasons that proves there outstanding marketing...but little else. Never seen, been in or had involvement with a BMW that was "good" never did one have sole or anything else for that matter...certainly nothing you couldnt get more of in other marques Mike 2014 Facelift Discovery |
