Rear amber delete

I've been a member for a while and thought I'd show you a some very minor mods recently completed.
Bought the car last summer, it's a 2006 4.4 petrol Shocked HSE and I'm really impressed with it but.... I've always hated the amber in the rear lights.

I'd planned on updating them with the new version (and probably still will) but I was at a loose end on sunday and thought I'd have a go at splitting them to tint the amber lens.
I read somewhere that the rears can't be heated to part them unlike the headlights.
So, carefully with a large bladed screwdriver and stanley knife I just split them.

They seemed to be bonded with a hardened glue that does split from the casing reasonably well however it breaks apart so the rear cover/lens needs to be resealed with a glue or silicone when you're done.

The first light took me about 5mins as I was very wary of cracking the cover but it was fine, the second took less than a minute.
The inner decor piece needed the stanley knife to coax it out but once removed the amber lens was reachable.
Here my luck ran out and I cracked the lens which was bonded to the chrome reflector in 6 areas.
Before I ordered the new set I tried a silver covered bulb in the light and it looked like this.

Now I know it's not quite the 2010 lens but it does clean up the rear for nearly free!!
A closer pic

I put a post up about this a few weeks ago after doing a bit of research i found that the yanks have done exactly what you done, taking the amber reflector out of the rear cluster. The one's i saw they didn't even take the cluster appart!! They just removed the cluster from the car, took the indicator bulb out and carfully took a hammer and screwdriver to the amber lense and knocked it out. Shocked .

Looks ok, but a little bit to clear. Think it needs something so the bulb cant be seen.
