Exhaust replacement options?

Hi guys, (sorry if this should have gone on the Technical section!)

I have the option to go for either

a) a rear box replacement with new pipework only and exhaust tips replacing simply the last few feet of the existing system
b) as above plus replacing and the mid section silencer (up to the cat in effect)
c) as above plus remove the cat but include a 'bullet box' where the mid point silencer was

The prices are competitive and I hadn't really thought about replacing the CAT but the engineer told me this would give most improvement with gas flow etc and wouldn't compromise the MOT. I understand that the sound will increase the more replacement takes place so this will be down to personal preference I assume BUT my question is on option c) will this have an adverse effect, will it not affect the MOT and am I likely to get more smoke coming out of the system.

For information the systems is made of 2.5 or 3 inch stainless steel with chromed polished tips and is priced a) £200 fitted b) £350 fitted and c) yet to be agreed.

What do you think guys? TDV8 HSE, Remap (+45 BHP + 100 Nm), Taylored sport exhaust system by Pipe Werx

Yeah, just put it back on for the mot ( or find a friendly mot inspector lol)
I've de-catted most of my previous cars, gives off a much deeper sound and can really help performance.

Ok I've made my decision not to replace the cat on my TDV8 RRS as to be honest I do not know enough about the consequence of doing so.

In having read about the diesel particulate filter specifically there is a possibility the CAT has a role to play in burning off the soot from the burnt fuel. Plus there may be some MOT issues

So it looks like a CAT back system on Friday and can't wait.

Thanks for the replies on the post guys. TDV8 HSE, Remap (+45 BHP + 100 Nm), Taylored sport exhaust system by Pipe Werx

A company called Pipe Werx in Lancashire. Really good firm and good workmanship. All systems are Taylor made on site to suit your needs.

I'm paying only £350 fitted with 1.5 mm tubing in either 2.5 or 3 inch stainless steel TDV8 HSE, Remap (+45 BHP + 100 Nm), Taylored sport exhaust system by Pipe Werx

Removing the cat shouldn't cause any soot or smoke, the only job of the cat is to change the "harmful" emissions into not so harmful emissions. It doesn't stop smoke or soot etc.
Changing the backbox on the car can also help performance as this is normally very restrictive.
All cars from around 1992 onwards have to have a cat fitted to pass an mot, if you get a straight thru system then all you need to do is take the cats with the car when you goto get an mot and tell them to put them on for the test and remove them after it, it will cost you half an hours labour or so.
