There is a RRS for sale on Ebay which is under 12 months old and the asking price is £18k It turns out that this is a right hand drive 4 litre petrol version that the US owner wants to sell in the UK, and they will pay the shipping cost. Goodness knows what the duty / VAT implications on import would be. All sounds far too good to be true to me. The following is the text of the email I got from the vendor.

I guess so, it simply doesn't seem to stack up and so there is no doubt a scam involved. Mind you £18,000 is around $31,000. Shipping would be a good $2,000 I guess (maybe Tim could give a more educated guess at that ?). So what would a right hand drive RRS sell for in the US in $'s ? I know that new they are about the same in $ as they are here in Pounds, so I imagine $29,000 is not such a stupidly low price for the vendor to be seeking. But then again, how or why he would ever have sourced a right hand drive V6 petrol in the US I have no notion. RRS TDv8 HSE Rimini

Sounds like somebody is trying to get rich quickly. Shipping a car from LA takes about 30 days and costs about £1,500 including insurance etc.

I would raise a huge ? over the engine............. there is no such thing as a 4.0l RRS in right hand drive! There is a 4.0l LR3. I would imagine the only way to have got a RHD RRS into the USA would have been a private or diplomatic import. My next door neighbours emigrated to New Hampshire a couple of years back and took their Volvo V40 because it was only 8 months old when they went, with them but recently shipped it back here to sell it this year. 2020 Pangea Green 1st Edition D240 New Defender 110 is here and loving it

Have just read the ad again and see that he expects it will be at your shipping address within 7-8 days................... the only way it will get to the UK in that short a time is if it goes by 747, and then shipping costs would be somewhat more than £1500! Even the fastest containerships would take 6 days to get from LA to the Panama Canal............ then another 10 days to get to Southampton / Liverpool / Felixstowe /Sheerness/ Tilbury. Going the other way, via the Far East would take a month.

If someone gives me a link to it I happen to know someone on the West Coast who wants a RRS but it's a bit out of his budget. He might be prepared to check him out. 2002 Discovery Adventurer LE
