While in France my screen cracked from the base to half way up on LHS; got the RRS back in UK and spoke to dealers who restate that because other systems interact with the screen and the car is still under warranty a OEM screen needs to be fitted.

My insurers say the screen must be fitted by " ...an approved supplier..." but they don't recognise and approve LR dealers and will only pay for a screen fitted by Autoglass because, as their customer service rep. Gary said today "...its cheaper"! But if I made a full accident claim then that MIGHT be considered; of course then I have to pay the full policy excess anyway!

If I comply with LR's conditions and get the LR dealer to fit a screen then the maximum my insurer will pay is £125. Screen costs about £500 with clips etc and another £100 to fit; a cool £600 - £700 with Vat !!

In effect this means that on any new car you do not have screen insurance that's sufficient to meet the terms of the manufacturer's warranty !!

autoglass fitted an oem screen to my car....autoglass rang my insurance company to ask for permission to fit it, ...no problem though, took couple of days to get it but OEM screen fitted.

Stand your ground with them

+2

Believe it or not, I have now had a 2nd replacement screen fitted, as the new one got hit and cracked a few weeks ago.
This time, armed with my previous experience with Inurers/Autoglass, I called my Insurer and made sure I got confirmation that as my policy states that any parts fitted will be original manufacturer parts that they would allow Autoglass to supply and fit an LR windscreen. This was confirmed and I took the claims assistants name as a contact. I then called Autoglass and told them what I wanted to happen. I got the usual " No sir, your inurer will only fit an Autoglass screen and if you want a LR one you will need to pay us the difference"..... Ummmm I don't B Censored dy think so!! I gave them the name and claim ref for my insurers and told them to call her and sort it out between them and to call me back when they had an answer. Next day Autoglass Aberdeen called to say it was all approved by my insurer (which is LR Insurance (provided by RSA)) and they would have the screen in a couple of days. Car was booked in and screen fitted a few days later Thumbs Up

Lets just hope that this one lasts longer than 7 or 8 weeks! Confused 2013 Discovery HSE Luxury - 3.0 SDV6 - Santorini Black

Didn't have the same luck with my insurers Direct Line who refused to cover the expense of an OEM part and only agreed to pay out £125 maximum contribution as it was MY choice not to use an "auhtorised supplier"! even though it was a Land Rover dealer.

Spoke with Jaguar LandRover Customer Relations who were sympathetic but not much practical help because of the short lead time as the screen had a major and lengthening crack.

JLR are are very keen to hear of owners getting problems of this nature so they could bring pressure where because of warranty, Type Approval and safety issues.

My dealer was helpful and gave a discount which reduced the pain a bit.

Guess who will be changing insurers shortly?

and seriously, if you allow yourself to be fobbed off with "not OEM" should your wipers etc fail then you should be ashamed of yourself!

doesn't anyone know how to pick a fight with a corporate?

it didn't have the land rover badge or any of the opticool and pv sign/symbols etc on.

when i questioned the dealer (likes of brecon) i was told they are not licensed to replace screens they sub it out to auto glass,

when i mentioned they had not fitted a genuine land rover part i was told because the first screen leaked and because it is a bonded screen which means it will break upon removal the less expensive screen was used Evil or Very Mad,
i politely said land rover uk MAY be happy with it but i am not, i expect only genuine land rover parts to be fitted when using a main dealer, within 10 seconds it was booked back in for a replacement.

the fact is land rover had specified that manufacture and screen with all the pv uv etc tests carried out and deemed the best screen for that vehicle, i wasn't going to expect anything less.

that's weird, was it still a Pilkington sheet? the LR and non-LR stamped screens are identical, but I can understand being Censored about not having the opticool/PV if that's what your original piece had

here is a non-LR stamped, Pilkington sheet, with all the other stuff as per original spec (even acoustic)
