Supercharged or TDV8?? Need help!

Hi to all,

I’m new here – my first post!

I need some advice from you guys please! I love the RRS and about to buy myself one for Christmas! But I’m torn between the 3.6TDV8 and the supercharged!!! The mpg figures push me towards the 3.6TDV8 the around town is quoted to be almost 20mpg can anybody confirm this? The Supercharged is only 12mpg are these figures a good guide or are they well out?? Also is there much power difference between the two? I’ve heard you can tweak the TDV8 to get a lot more power and mpg? Anybody done that & who did you use to do it?

It would be a second car for me doing properly less than 6k a year but I need to know which the best one between them is? The S/C or TDV8?? Any advice would be very welcome! Cheers Laurence.

Have both

TDv8 is a great tool i get 20+ round town not flooring it but steady stuff and up to 32 on a run (with the engine properly mapped of course) over 80MPH fuel drops to 25 on my tdv8 and 16 on my petrol.

Don't buy the 2.7 or the 3.0 V6 at the mo 2.7 underpowered and the 3.0 i know of 5 that have gone bang in first few 100 miles Sad 2014 5.0SC AB

Gone 5.0 SC

You have BOTH!!! Wow!! must be a great car! Can I ask why you have both? By the sounds of it you have had the TDV8 re-mapped? Did this improve the mpg and much improve the power - Is it much slower than the S/C? I've heard the TDV8 has really good mid range power?

Thanks for the reply Thumbs Up Cheers Laurence.

I think you need to test drive both to get a good feel for yourself, although both are fine cars. From what I can remember the 4.2 SC is noticeably quicker (not much, but noticeable).

However if you are already in doubt over mpg now, than maybe better to go with the tdv8 (and tune it of course), as you will be reminded every time you fill her up. RRS SDV6 HEV Dynamic

Yes the TDv8 i have is mapped NOT CHIPPED aghhhh yes helps MPG ( IF you dont floor it all the time with a smile on your face ) and gives more grunt has immense midrange quicker than my old 4.2 not as quick at the 5.0 though lol. TDV8 more torque which gets it moving better for towing. SC more refined of course. 2 vastly diff cars when it come to power delivery. 2014 5.0SC AB

Gone 5.0 SC

If you're not concerned about MPG it has to be the supercharged. The power, Spec and sound just makes it a fair more enjoyable drive then the diesel. Why have Cava when you can have Champagne!

Spec & Sound hmm my TDv8 has more toys than my SC and sound my TdV8 has the same outside roar off the back end once it was mapped of course , SC is more relaxed for cross fast road stuff 2014 5.0SC AB

Gone 5.0 SC

Get a Supercharged.

If you can afford a proper example RRS and will only do 6k a year then there is no question in my mind.

I may be biased but i had this decision and went S/C without even asking on here and i dont regret it.

No matter how good the TDV8 it still makes noise like a diesel, end of. The S/C is beautifully refined and quiet until you let loose on the pedal then it gets even better.

I opted for a very low mileage, high spec S/C rather than a high mileage TDV8 because my price range was £25 - £30k bracket. A good TDV8 will be upto £10k more than an early S/C, thats a lot of diesel to get your money back Smile

Try both and see what you think.

Just my opinion ofcourse.

Carl

England 2008 Range Rover Sport TDV8 HSE Stornoway Grey

Hi Buster007,

Just so happens I have a TDV8 for sale with 37500 miles on her.

She has been very well looked after and I can suppply her either with or without a BAS re-map and box so you can change back to standard as and when you want and then put the extra performance map on again - takes about 2 mins to do.

She is 3 years old in 2 days and has just had her first MOT, is taxed for 6 months and has a full LR extended warranty from 7th Dec - this is transferable and extendable.

Stornoway is the colour and she has several extras such as a heated steering wheel, side steps, door strips, Webasto remote heater (call to switch it on and she is lovely and warm for you) and a Twisted Performance cat back exhaust system to mention a few.

Let me know if she would be of any interest? "UNDERSTEER" ----is when you hit the fence with the front of the car.
"OVERSTEER" ------is when you hit the fence with the rear of the car.
"HORSEPOWER" ----is how fast you hit the fence.
"TORQUE" -----------is how far you take the fence with you.

get the TDV8, it is possibly the most perfect vehicle ever created. Okay I'm biased, but 29mpg+ on motorway is easy and ~20mpg around town.
