Lets deal with Smarticus first.

Possibly not a million miles away. There's a whole lot of challenging terrain to tackle in Cyprus and depending what their laws are about off-roading I could well look at getting a bit more serious about off-roading and buy a Defender. It would have to be a 3rd car tho'

VA - That's a good suggestion. I was reading a past issue of EVO last night and there was an article about a Works Cooper S and that it was a hoot, but better as a second car. That could be a real possibility. It's also only 1600cc which is good.

I've also thought of some others and would be interested in thoughts:

New Volvo C70 (Steel folding roof)
New Golf based folding tin top (Based on EOS concept car)
as well as:
RX-8
Focus ST

I think the limiting factor is definitely going to be dealer network/distributors etc Runner up - 2009 Best Avatar Award Sad

Jay, valid point but I don't think that'll be too much of an issue as we'll still have RRS.

My mum has a Cooper (Non-S) and both the rear seats and boot is tiny! Runner up - 2009 Best Avatar Award Sad

C70 looks nice and has had some good reviews, but it's about 27k new isn't it? You're into TT territory pricewise so will this not incur the same duties?

What exactly are your criteria for choice? We've not looked at cars with any sort of common thread yet, saloons/cabs/4x4s.... what do you need?

This is the problem Shmoogle, I don't really know. I want another RRS (His 'n' hers)

The duty is based on cc as follows:

Using the table below and the differentiations which follow, you may calculate on your own the excise duty on any vehicle. Categories per cc Categories of vehicles
A B C
Saloon and 4X4
£ per cc
0–1450 0,50
1450 –1650 0,85
1650–2050 2,70
2050–2250 2,85
2250–2650 5,50
2650 + 8,00

If not, then I want something fun but not TOTALLY impractical.

Hence:

RX-8 (Fun and Full 4 seater), Focus ST (Fun and practical), Cooper S (Fun and practical), Golf GTi (Fun and practical).

Anything 1650cc + starts to attract serious duty tho'

I've told Mrs ST about driving around with her top down.

Hey SuperT, my Defenders for sale. One careful owner (who I bought it off) and I have been very gentle (not) to her since. She is a coniston green 300tdi but fully tricked up (front & rear winches, snorkel, full cage, jungle trekers, rear ARB diff lock, raised suspension, spots, Garmin GPS etc etc etc). She looks like she fell out of a tree and hit every branch on the way down (in fact thats not far from the truth now I think about it). Bet she would take Cyprus by storm......
