Breake squeal

Gents comments on the following welcome.
I've experienced a slight brake squeal at low speeds - creeping in traffic - which was diagnosed by the dealer as dirt and dust in the hand brake drum. In fairness when I first reported it to the dealer they fixed it free of charge. (at about 20k miles).
It returned and I mentioned it as the car was in for its 30k service. The dealer called to say it was probably dirt in the break drum but it is not covered by warranty. Did I want it done? (Cost about £65) I refused saying I would contact Land Rover.
This I did to be told the dealer was correct and brake cleaning is a service item.
I don’t believe the range rover has a feature of squealing brakes so if it is a service item is it in the service schedule - I await reply from LR.
Any info out there?
I feel a dispute coming on.
Keep driving.

It is a very common problem Hugh, but having said that I never suffered it on my recently departed 2007MY TDv8 HSE. One of the problems is that the squeek will not go away, usually it is only dirt in the system if you have been offroad in the mud and wading BUT if you haven't then it can be more serious and the pads in the EPB have become worn and moved out of position - eventually you will not be able to release the EPB (most folks don't let it get that bad though!) I would say £65 is pretty reasonable as that is less than the cost of the labour for an hour (and often an hour is the minimum charge!) If you think it should cost less then there is no reason why you cannot take the car to a non-franchised specialist. Unfortunately I don't know of any down your way but there are 2 excellent companies up here in the Central Belt -

There is another specialist in Greenock/Gourock area but I cannot remember their name. I have lots of experience of GEMM and have always had good service at extremely low prices using all genuine Land Rover parts and George Maclay is a serial Disco3 and Disco4 owner! 2020 Pangea Green 1st Edition D240 New Defender 110 is here and loving it

Many thanks Tim.
I will have a chat with these people you recomend.
Its not actually the cost that bothers me its more the principal. If it's a service item then fine I'd be happy to have it done - it is not on the dealers service shedule sheet. However if not I feel it should be warranty.
Strangely it only seems to apear in dry weather. Not usually an issue in Scotland as I'm sure you know.
I will torment Land rover 'Customer Service' a bit more see what wisdom they come up with. They may see it as a feature.
Thanks again.
