United Kingdom 2007 Range Rover Sport TDV6 HSE Java Black
BMW with no spare wheel

The wife's BMW 318d picked up 2 screw nails in front and rear tyres. One was OK to drive on (the front) but the one on the back was flat (ish). Ok thinks me, put the spare on and go visit my mates Jimmy and George at Performance Tyres in my village (Carmunnock). Ha! No spare wheel in the car. What do I find in the boot? A small portable tyre inflator compressor and some foam injection stuff to re inflate the tyre so that you can get to a garage. What bullshit is this! Surely this is not legal?

I bought the car brand new in June 2009. No spare wheel. No jack. But a stupid tyre inflation kit. What if the side wall of a tyre is torn on a ragged edged pothole or kerb. Jesus, I can't believe a major car manufacturer is actually sending out cars with no spare and no means of jacking the car up. A letter is going to BMW, the dealer and my MP on Monday to challenge the sense and legality of this. Will I buy another one. No chance. Outrageous! Evil or Very Mad Evil or Very Mad If you see a bandwagon - it's too late.....

Annoying isn't it? my Mrs has a Honda Civic Embarassed ..this has the same pathetic bottle of gloop, and a compressor, next to useless IMHO. The first thing I did was buy a space saver wheel / tyre kit for it, luckily it does fit in the boot , just,(a full size spare wouldn't), and it does have jack+ brace. RRS TDV8 Buck Blue (no, not now in my dreams). ..........D3 TDclankety clankV6 ............BMW 318i

nope. No run flats. Standard Michelin Energy tyres. But it does have the run-flat electronic deflation warning system on the dash - and it works! Censored If you see a bandwagon - it's too late.....

Hi Texstar

There is. But there is a plastic filler section inserted in the space where a spare would go to cover the area, leaving only the stupid tyre inflator and gunge botttle in this space. Beggars belief. Shocked If you see a bandwagon - it's too late.....

Well having a moan at them, might make them think about contributing towards a spare wheel, jack and any necessary plastic bits etc. required to make it a proper fitment, if it can be done muffd, worth a try I would think.. 2013 Range Rover Sport SDV6 HSE Stornoway Grey

I think you will get a reply to the effect that they have fullfilled their legal obligations to provide a means of temporary repairing the problem. I wouldn't bother writing to them as the car wouldn't have got type approval if they hadn't put the gunge and compressor there. I know it is stupid and crazy not to put a spare in but it saves weight, getting their CO2 level down and saves them a lot of money when you think how many cars BMW must have produced with the same system............. 2020 Pangea Green 1st Edition D240 New Defender 110 is here and loving it

The ones here still come with a full size spare, so i guess you could buy the fittings if you really want to.

muffd - call BMW assist - they will come and get the car and take it either to your home or garage for a new tyre. We has the same with the Mini and this was the protocol in case the tyre was shredded

I appreaciate a spare tyre used to be norm, however this is pretty common these days to have the tyre repair/inflation kit to improve mpg and C02 emissions

The fact the car does not have run flats and has this stupid system is ridiculous. I am still going to kick up merry hell tomorrow. If you see a bandwagon - it's too late.....
