Swapping a set of 19" wheels for 20" Stormers

I've been following the posts for a whiles and like the banter (mostly) and insights (always)

I have an option to get back into a RR and buy a RRS (Black\Black) with 7,000 miles but it's on 19" wheels. The main dealer is going to provide a quote tomorrow for 20" Stormers & Pirelli Scorpion Zero AS 106Y tires at cost, and said I should expect to pay circa £1,800 - is this a good deal?

Apart from the ascetics (which are a big driver) is there any major difference in the ride quality? I get to keep the 19" and wheels and tires, but frankly will probably not have much use for them, presume I am not alone here.

Your thoughts please? Current: CLS 500, Bentley GT
Gone: CL 55 AMG 500BHP through a 6 speed box 03-05

Gone: RR 2.5 TDI (blown engine at 45k) 99-01
Given back: RR 2.5 TDI (after 6 weeks) 99

Hi there Wolfmanjack

The ride will be slightly firmer with the 20s but then the handling will be slightly better too so its swings and roundabouts. The 19s might be worth putting a set of all terrain or ice and snow tyres on for next winter or for off roading. Just my tuppence but Im sure somebody else will be along shortly to help also!!

thanks for the tip - yes I like the idea of all terrain or snow tyres! i was told by the main dealer that they would need to adjust tow in/suspension when swapping wheels up or down a size, do you know if this is true? Current: CLS 500, Bentley GT

another question, will 2010 MY 20 INCH 15-SPOKE ALLOYS ‘STYLE 4’ be OK to fit on a 2009 MY car? ebay seems to have several (genuine) sets with Continental tyres - or am I breaking a rule and should stay with Stormers (still trying to find a pic of Stormers) Current: CLS 500, Bentley GT

2013 Range Rover Sport SDV6 HSE Stornoway Grey

I have the old style HSE, 5x Vspoke 19" wheels with Pirelli Scorpion Ice and Snow tyres on them at the moment and apart from a discrepancy on the speedo there are no modifications required! Which RRS are you looking for wolfman?
Just before I was about to collect a set of the 2010MY 15 Spoke style 5 wheels yesterday they said to me that they thought they might not fit my TDV8 which has the Brembo brakes, which is strange because the 2010MY cars have bigger brakes even than my TDV8! It isn't easy to find a 19" Land Rover wheel suitable for the RRS - many Disco3 and FFRR wheels cannot be fitted without spacers........ Normally I run on the 20" 10x Vee spoke "supercharged" style that came standard on the car. 2020 Pangea Green 1st Edition D240 New Defender 110 is here and loving it
2018 Melting Silver Mini Countryman PHEV - soon to be replaced
2015MY Corris Grey SDv6 HSE Dynamic, the best car I have ever owned, totally reliable only a cou0le of rattles in 3 years, now no longer in my care
Also in my garage is a 1996 TDi300 Defender 90 County HT made into a fake CSW

Hi Tim

It's a 2.7 TDV HSE (ex-management car) March 09. I don't know what wheels it has on it at the moment other than they are 19" wheels

Good old ebay has GENUINE HST 20" 2009 / 2010 SPORT SUPERCHARGED HST ALLOY WHEEL PACKAGE, and also

A set of 20" GENUINE RANGE ROVER SPORT STORMER ALLOY WHEELS complete with 275 / 40 / 20 CONTINENTAL TYRES all between £1,400 & £1,500

Yes I had heard that the Brembo's created a compatibility problem with some wheels, which did seem odd.

Also heard that the Continental's wore badly on the tyre rims (again a main dealer) Current: CLS 500, Bentley GT

Ditto

I collect my TDV 2.7 tomorrow and the dealer is going to after fit a set of 20" silver Series 2010 MY HST wheels which I found on eBay, I went for the silver rather than the diamond polished as apparently they can't be easily refurbished if you kerb em.

BTW the wheels I found are claimed to be genuine and the firm is pucker. They came off a 2010 car going in for a 22" upgrade so are brand new. Delivered all in at £1k this is a lot less than the paying the dealer, I'll let you know if the main dealership tells me they are non OEM. Current: CLS 500, Bentley GT

Sorry Tim Embarassed

So will the new 19" fit or don't you know yet Question I'd be very interested to find out as I wouldn't mind a set of them for winter use. TDV6 - gone

The dealer had none in stock, new or used, so they are getting one in to try on my car, but they are on back order at the factory at the moment.

Interesting that they weren't sure that the style of 19" wheels that I have on it would fit - they have had lots of TDv8 RRS owners in looking for advice about fitting winter tyres and wheels. The parts manager was delighted to find out that the 5V spokes would fit on a pre 2010MY TDv8. I told him he should refer clients to this forum if he isn't sure what could be done to an RRS as most things have been tried on here! 2020 Pangea Green 1st Edition D240 New Defender 110 is here and loving it

Italy 2008 Range Rover Sport TDV8 HSE Stornoway Grey

Tim,

I am Giovanni from Rome Italy, just bought my first RRS (2008 TDV8 HSE with D.R. and Brembos).
about your idea of fitting 2010 "style 5" 15 spoke 19'' alloys on your RRS I had the same idea, I bought 4 "style 5" wheels (ebay) for a good price but then I found out that these rims just DON'T FIT due to Brembo calipers (they more than hit the calipers....they STICK to calipers....no way to let the wheel turn even a single millimeter....)....ok....I've been a total idiot having not verified carefully compatibility before buying....I'll have to re-sell these 15 spoke rims (they're in mint cond. never used and, IMHO, are simply beautiful, probably among the best available)) fortunatelly I'll take advantage of the tyres that are new (Contis with 8,5 mm of tread)
In the picture you posted your RRS (which appears to be quite similar to mine) has 19'' 5 spoke alloys, the same I found on official 2008-2009 RRS accessories brochure from LR.Do these 19'' rims You have on your car fit our type of RRS with Brembo brakes ? Are these rims let's say "official" regarding LR warranty issues ? it just a "plug and play" operation or will I need some sort of adaptation ?
