Software to convert Office 2007 DOCX to .DOC office document

My father used Office 2007 (I think he's about the only person in the world that did) until his computer self destructed recently and now he has an even more useless Vista system on a laptop. However he is having problems opening the .DOCX documents on his new machine. Searching Google for a converter has turned up 1000's of programmes but they all lead to paid for downloads from websites that want to sell you a million other programmes as well. Does anybody know of a converter program to turn DOCX back to DOC documents that is FREE! 2020 Pangea Green 1st Edition D240 New Defender 110 is here and loving it

Hi Tim

If he's got access to a previous version Microsoft Office 2000 or 2003, then he can install the following, which is FREE from Microsoft and will convert the Office 2007 DocX files to Office 2000 when opened:

Hope it does the job for you.

Cheers

Hi

Sorry, I was assuming that you have a older version of Microsoft Office? If you have Office 2007, then you are fine out of the box. If you have neither then I’d suggest OpenOffice:

which is FREE, and will read Microsoft Office 2007 DocX files without a problem, though if you have complex formatting, it might not look “so” pretty Wink

I would try installing Open Office and seeing if this will open the documents. If it does, do a 'save as' and choose the earlier version of Word. If you see a bandwagon - it's too late.....

Tim,
Do you still have the product key for Office 2007 from the "tits up" computer. All you need then do is obtain media, pop in the key, and you are away.
