Kaine, it isn't just LRs that are cheaper in the US, it's every car.

Hence my question relating to Lexus, this car is certainaly not lower spec or finished any different to its European equivalent.

but they are competing with cars built in the US

Lexus make various models in the US, plus are subsidised by Toyota in many ways - hence they can compete globally on a std cost basis - LR can't

Put yourself in the shoes of the marketing guys - you need to compete with cars that are a significantly less than yours - you take each market on its own merits

In fact take any basket of goods and you will find it cheaper in the USA, DVD's, CD's, electronic goods, TV's, food, fuel, it is good old rip off Britain

to add, you have to understand that in order to keep pricing low (and I mean to stop a RRS costing you £100k each) they need volumes up. This is achieved by selling into more markets - you need volume to get pricing down.

Are you refering to luxury goods? How about food?

Kaine

I am discussing all general items including food both supermarket items and eating out, consitantly we come a very poor second to our friends across the pond on cost of living, as i said earlier good old rip of Britain and dont even get me on the cost of a pint and what Mr Censored Brown takes as his slice in the death bells of another great British institution.

ok, gotcha - so the issue here then is NULAB's F**k up of our economy and not LR's pricing policy Wink

to be honest i am playing devils advocate

Its clear to me that LR pricing in the UK is higher intentionally, however I accept the reasons and make my buying decision with this in mind - I guess you really do the same

I think we are slightly off topic here but my gripe is yes with NULAB and the EU as it is also to blame on the cost of goods in general in our part of the world Wink it was just an observation that LR's pricing is as it is, however one thing i noticed being advertised whilst i was there last month is that the RRS has the best residuals 4 years running in its class Thumbs Up

Kaine, you're spot on.

The simple answer is if you're not happy with the pricing then vote with your feet.

I for one, will be replacing our RRS with another one once our excessive duty system is abolished.

£50,695 for a MY2010 TDV6 HSE. That's a lot of money. Can't see that dealers will be able to sustain that. Yeah, the enthusiasts and people on here will go do lally. But Joe Bloggs, when faced with all of the other things he can buy with £50K might not be so welcoming.

This time next year, you will be able to get one for not a penny over £45K. Wait a while unless you have £5K to burn. I've been mad for flipping years, absolutely years, over the edge for yonks.

2013 Range Rover Sport SDV6 HSE Stornoway Grey

Another thing that a high initial price of a new model does is (hopefully!) mean the residuals of the previous version is maintained rather than plummeting through the floor as soon as the facelifted model is launched.
Land Rover are passed masters at racking up the price of facelifted models (they call it range re-alignment)
So D4/RRS/FFRR all get facelifts and huge price raises within 3 months of each other and that makes room at the lower end of the price scale for the baby LFRR (Low Fat Range Rover?, aka the LRX) to slot in between Freelander2 and D4......................... 2020 Pangea Green 1st Edition D240 New Defender 110 is here and loving it
