Cool post RRUK, makes interesting reading. I’ll be taking a few points on board in the future.

Just a quick question for you, any reason you use a regular hose instead of a power-washer to wash down the car.

Is it that you just don’t have a power-washer or is there a more “detailed” reason ??

Rupert, if you use a power was, keep it away from parking sensors. It can Censored them up!

Power washers can also cause foaming up on the car, especially if you use a shampoo which has any protective additives in it. It can also strip them away. Runner up - 2009 Best Avatar Award Sad

Cheers for the heads-up on the PDC, I’ll remember that “Supertrotter” thanks !

With regard to foaming up, I only use the Power-washer to first wash down the car to get the heavy stuff off, before washing with a sponge, (soon to be a lambs wool mitt Wink ) then again to do the final rinse before the Chamois.

I never use shampoo in the washer itself.

As a rule I avoid using my pressure washer on the car as the power of the spray can deteriorate the wax finish quicker. There's also the risk that if you have any paint damage such as a decent stone chips, the pressure washer could blast off more paint in the surrounding area as it will exploit the weakness.

However, with a 4x4, especially if you use it offroad as I do, and even more so in the winter, sometimes there's no other way to get all the major crud off first before you start to use your lovely lambswool wash mitt on it, otherwise you'd need to wash it twice. It's also invaluable for getting the mud off wheels and out of wheel arch areas.

See what I mean...

That’s ok so, I’ll continue as I am. I only use the washer to get rid of the heavy stuff before I was the wash the car by hand. Smile
