With regard to the iphone email, i have that set to fetch as we get so many emails it would drive us nuts, so it works well (for us at least).

But what is the pseudo part of the iphone push function? I.E. How is it different to push email on the Blackberry? Push is push right? Fetch is a timed thing. Are we talking about an older iphone firmware? 2022 P440e AB

As far as I know there is no true "push" function on the iphone except for the linkage with Exchange:

It may be possible to acheieve true "push" email through the Mobileme function but I am happy to check my email as and when.

- Well, my contacts, and schedule is pushed for sure. I choose to fetch my email.

Email, when I delete it on my phone, is deleted instantly on my desktop....

Exchange uses Activesync, which is a push protocol (so far as I know).
- IMAP is not (which can be used with Exchange).

Have just switched on push for my email (with exchange) and will let you know later how that goes (with respect to delivery times). 2022 P440e AB

Test emails are arriving on the iphone with push enabled within a couple of seconds of them appearing on my desktop.....

So, sounds like this push thing is sorted. 2022 P440e AB

Is it possible to have the push email capability if you're not taking an exchange server feed?

I think mine are delivered via pop3 from my existing broadband isp??? WINNER - 2009 Best Newcomer Award

No, you would need to use activesync. That is not POP.
- That means, it would work and sync with MobileMe

or indeed (for free) Google's Contact and Calendar functions (can be pushed).
http://www.google.com/mobile/apple/sync.html

On can always use a hosted Exchange service (which is basically what mobileme is), though I'm sure in time, google will do this for free.
