Castrol GTX Magnatec 5W 30 is the stuff, available from your local Halfrauds. Or you can get oil from dealers (which is probably the same in a LR plastic bottle). Any oil meeting ACEA :B1 or B3 spec and is 5W 30 grade should also be satisfactory. |

The only difference between the Magnatec that you buy from Halfrauds and your local dealer (apart from the colour and label of the container) is the price................................ to have a green oval on the label you pay about 30% extra over the Halfords price! 2020 Pangea Green 1st Edition D240 New Defender 110 is here and loving it

So on next service would it be acceptable to turn up with my own oil and ask them to use it as long as it meets the required spec?

Yes, I used to do this with my last few Land Rovers but make sure that you tell the service reception that you are providing your own oil and make sure you don't get billed for it in the charges although you will receive a charge for environmentally friendly disposal of your old oil and filter. 2020 Pangea Green 1st Edition D240 New Defender 110 is here and loving it

BKHK - just tell them when you book it in for a service that you won't pay for them to top it up - make sure it goes on the job sheet and if they bill you for it afterwards contest it. Services are expensive enough without having to pay for oil to be packaged in Land Rover branded canisters when it can be supplied cheaper in the makers canister
