United Kingdom 2008 Range Rover Sport TDV6 HSE Java Black
Low Coolant Warning

Jumped in the car early this morning 4.30 Big Cry for long drive north and after about 4 miles received warning that the coolant level was low, this stayed in the display under the information screen for about 30 seconds and then disappeared, kept an eye on the temp gauge and all was normal and no further warnings during my 200 mile trip, any ideas what may be the cause and yes i have checked the coolant level!!!

Thanks

There have been reports of a faulty coolant level sensor.... replacing this fixes the problem. Otherwise could just have been part of owning a RRS - keep an eye on it and take it in to the dealer if it starts happening regularly Very Happy

You need to get the expansion bottle replaced - warranty job. 2005 Zambezi TDV6 - Gone but not forgotten

I have heard both of split bottles and faulty sensors - keep an eye on the level until you are next at the stealer when warranty should take care of it...

Malaysia 2006 Range Rover Sport Supercharged Chawton White

In the early days they used to replace the whole bottle but recently, if there's no signs of coolant loss and the sensor float has not sunk, it is not necessary to replace the coolant tank. It is possible that the engine low level coolant switch (located at the bottom of the coolant expansion tank) may be at fault.

This low level coolant switch is now available as a serviceable part. Malaysia Boleh!

the low coolant thing is a Jaguar V8 engine specific problem - sensor is to sensible for a little water loss - i have had this with all my V8 Jags...

Maybe the coolant bottle itself is a Jag-sourced part.... they were all Ford/PAG parts at the end of the day I suppose.

Well had the problem looked at and advised that the coolant was low ( not sure how as i have been checking it since last week) they claimed that the there was some air in the system and they have bled it and it should now be OK, although i did ask why this had not been spotted at the service it allegedly received prior to my delivery, ill wait and see how it goes from here.

I had several Low Coolant warnings over a weekend after the FBH was fitted to my TDv6, I called out LR Assist and they could find nothing wrong. On the Monday i took the car into the local dealers who had had to drop some coolant out to fit the heater........................ they topped the system up and I never had a warning again 2020 Pangea Green 1st Edition D240 New Defender 110 is here and loving it

Hi, The sensor is part number PCJ500030 £ 2.94+vat!. it's fitted to the bottom of the expansion bottle.
Interestingly I have found that if the coolant is kept about 5-10mm over the full mark the warning doesn't usually come on, on ones with slightly suspect sensors.

Regards
Steve
