odd noise when reversing on full lock

When doing the above action coming out of my driveway I notice there is a clanking type of noise that comes from the outside wheel, (Whichever direction you are turning) when the steering is at full lock in reverse and at low speed.

It also seems to happen a few times per turn.

Has anyone else had it, does anyone know what it is or why it does it? L319 D4 HSE

Not had it on the RRS, but I did have it on a previous car. Was a worn CV joint in the rear axle... I wouldn't expect that on a brand new car but stranger things have happened. You wouldn't have expected to have have your car put through a full wheel alignment after a short time out of the factory! Wink Might be some vaguary of the 4x4 system?

not sure if it IS at access height only, will check that next time I go out and see if it does it in access or normal height. L319 D4 HSE

I keep getting this weird clanking/banging noise when reversing on full lock slowly at access height. Definitely coming from the front wheels, it's so noisy that bystanders look at the car, expecting to see that I have hit something perhaps or watch bits fall off.

Has ANYONE else had this in theirs? Question L319 D4 HSE

Strange, had the same problem with a Jeep Wrangler I had 4-5 years ago but apparently it was due to the fact that when at full lock the wider tyres would scrape the chasis and bounce back, but in your case, you d better check it Confused RRS S/C,Bonatti Grey,Ebony Interior,Lined Oak Finish, Rear Lock Dif, DVD,Sunroof,ACC

Sounds like what the dealer might say...I might call them today and ask if they have heard of it. L319 D4 HSE

I get quite a loud scraping type noise from the right front wheel when I am at full lock in access mode (in multi storey carparks normally). Dealer claims its perfectly normal but did say that I shouldn't be driving (even in carparks) in access mode. This defeats the purpose of being able to lock it in access! 2013 RRS SDV6 Autobiography Fuji White

Tell your dealer " Boll***s" the entire setup ( ride height ) is governed by pre determined/set speed limits.

Will remain at access height untill speed exceeds 6mph

Wont drop to access height untill vehicle slows to below 6mph and does not light up the symbol until 5mph.

CRAWL MODE

This mode enables the vehicle to be driven at low speeds at access height to give increased roof clearence in low car parks ,etc.
Crawl can be selected when the vehicle is below ( 22mph ) . When locked in this mode , normal on road height will be selected automatically if the vehicle speed exceeds 24mph

So again you should tell your dealer to read his handbook Shocked Wink

I have the car booked in for this issue and couple of others, they said they had heard it before, and recently in particular on a D3 being moved about in the showroom, said someting to do with the steering lock stops having not been adjusted at PDI.

Not sure if this is what mine is or not but I tested it tonight, in access mode, reverse, full lock either way..."CLANG CLANG CLANG! L319 D4 HSE

full lock noise

I heard it on my vehicle - 18inch wheels. Only has happened on full lock in access height .
Havent been to look underneath but sounds like wheels rubbing on body/chassis. TDV6 Buckingham Blue

Hi RRUK,

I know I'm new to posting on this forum, but have been following this and Disco3.co.uk for a while.

This issue you state is common with the Disco 3, in that the suspension has lock stops to limit steering angle into suspension bump and rebound (thus giving an amazing turning circle when at normal ride height). Unfortunately, this metal on metal contact often makes a noise. I have played with this around a multi storey car park and have found that if you put copper-slip on the pip and flat found in the following picture:

http://www.disco3.co.uk/gallery/displayima...amp;pos=10

This issue has been discussed at length on the following forum:

http://www.disco3.co.uk/forum/viewtopic.php?t=948

I hope this helps! ===============================
Unfortunately cannot afford an RRS(!), But I get to borrow my Boss's LR3 and RRS!
